Do you guys feel ALL native-related names and logos should be changed?
I get into this with my wife all the time. Names like the Indians, Braves, Redskins, and such should go, I agree.
But, names like the Blackhawks or Seminoles, in my opinion, are fine. They are by no means a slur. The use is a tribute to the tribe that once inhabited that local area.

I'm pretty much where you are. I think the Blackhawks are fine. Their logo may need some tweaking to keep the liberal cancel mob at bay but I don't see a complete rebranding of that franchise as necessary.

often times the mascot or songs played during games is offensive even if the name isnt necessarily (although i'd defer to actual native american's opinion on what names are considered offensive). What people wear to games for those teams (headdresses, warpaint, tomahawks, etc) is also problematic. So even if the name is well intentioned enough the stuff that comes with it usually isnt

I don't really have a problem with the Braves. Indians and Redskins (and Redmen ) are no-brainers. I don't see the big deal about naming teams after actual tribe names though.

Fair point.
I am in shock on a way-too-regular basis when stadiums still erupt into the Tomahawk chop chant!!

i wouldnt call it a "cancel mob" if the people who are the subject of these team names, mascots, etc are calling it offensive. If Native Americans were like "chill out we are cool with this" then sure, keep em i guess. But i'm certain they aren't cool with most of it

Yeah, there needs to be a definable difference between cancel culture and respecting others.
In terms of the use of Braves, unless I'm mistaken I believe that was a term the white man gave to native warriors. Therefore, making it a slur.

That's the heart of my point.
If there is no difference between "Redskins" and the actual name of a tribe that the tribe gave itself, then no one should ever mention anyone else's history or ethnicity ever again on any topic.
To me that is as ridiculous as not admitting that any of the terms could be offensive.

like for instance i am jewish. if there was a team name like the "Macabees" or something which were highly regarded warriors, that itself wouldnt be offensive. however all of the fanfair that came along with it would all but certainly be, because people are dumb. then you add on top of that the history of native americans in this country and how boned they've been for centuries and the whole naming of teams after them is even more patronizing

I wouldn't say I've forgotten about it. But, as I am a white male, born in the 1970's, I probably don't give it the massive weight that it deserves. Although, I do try to be respectful of everyone (unless they're an bumhole).

I was actually thinking the other night as the game ended that when I eventually do make my way down there to see a game at MSG in person for the 1st time, I'd love to contact some of you guys and grab a drink. Then I thought, I better DM them or I'll have Dundee waiting for me, as promised!!

also, just a PS: to add to this cancel thing. I'm not that old but am old enough to remember conservatives "cancelling" the dixie chicks. Other conservative "cancellations" include Kathy Griffin, Taylor Swift, scary rock music, companies calling out the recent georgia voting laws, the list goes on. This is not my opinion on anything other than being over the whole "liberal cancel culture" proclamation. i think im a pretty reasonable guy (you tell me) and the picture being portrayed of this woke hellscape where everyone is overly sensitive and runs the risk of being "cancelled" for having a certain view is not reality. there is a loud minority of overly sensitive woke people but that doesnt detract from the real reasons certain people/things may receive criticism. Also, the conflating of a free enterprise business (twitter, FB, etc) punishing people on their platforms for things as an infringement on free speech is another bugaboo for me. No one can censor your free speech except the Govt, which it has not. A business can do whatever the hell it wants thanks to free market capitalism.

What I mean is even if the Blackhawks had actual tribes on their side it might still get changed. So much is being deemed offensive these days it's gotten tiresome.

However, I do think many of the names are offensive and should be changed. Braves as a name is borderline (given the context) but the tomahawk chant is one of the worst things in sports
