still better than PK who stopped being good one night in his sleep. how long is the contract? he's not playing the whole thing out anyway, right?
i only watched bits and pieces of the last few games. he really looks shot out there? maybe it's just his age combined with the crazy schedule this year? can he get any maintenance days in or is there nobody else they can throw in for a game or two here or there? - kicksave856
yeah, giving him some "therapy days" surely wouldn't hurt, not sure if Merrill and Gustafsson are part of the solution but it would be nice if they could figure something out

i noticed this quite early in the season. not only does he rarely shoot but when he does, it's not the same shot anymore. maybe you're right about an injury because there's no reason he shouldn't still be able to crank it at his age. - DoubleDown
Two words: load management
Toffoli looks like he is limping too but the whole team is injured...mentally

one more year. as opposed to Weber, to whom Montreal is contractually obligated until the sun consumes the earth

i don't think you'll see him up unless the team's performance improves. they're not bringing him up to a team that's losing games and having a miserable time scoring. those generally aren't the conditions into which teams bring their blue chippers. - DoubleDown
then they should call him up the moment they win 2 games in a row lol

Toffoli is just a slow player. that's who he is. he's a finisher but right now no one generates anything anyway.

no no, i was asking about weber's contract. but i just looked it up. yeesh. but he's retiring before that and doesn't nashville get some kind of penalty when he does rather than the habs? |

While I mostly agree but with my initial premise that Bergevin loses his job if they don't make the playoffs, if they start slipping too much, he'll use his trump card sooner than later.
Caufield will be with the team in the playoffs anyway. AHL still hasn't confirmed they'll have playoffs of their own.

during the morning skate he looked like he was in pain, he really didn't look comfortable skating, it was kinda obvious

During the game yesterday, Armia received a perfect pass on his stick, right in front of the goaltender.
It took him just that little extra time to get a shot and the goaltender easily made the save.
It's when you see plays like that, and then watch Caufield one-time instantly a saucer pass that you realize how much we need a guy like him. - Scabeh
They should call Caufield up right now to provide the spark and give the team a boost, a few more games CGY will be next to us rather than in our rear view mirror

He gets $6m actual salary next season, then $3m, then $1m, $1m, $1m. He's playing one more season, two max |

Exactly... his contract is really ending after next season, financially anyway, it was constructed that way |

4 pts ahead of CGY with 3 games in hand, I know there are no guarantees but they're still in a good position to make them |

i assume a buyout at some point would wreck our cap?
i do still think he has a few years left as a good player. he's just ideally suited now to a secondary role.

Did you look at CGY schedule? 4 games against VAN who just had covid so it’s like 8 easy points there, no games against Toronto and a few against EDM and OTT and of course us |
