We have the cap space right now to sign a defenseman like Hamilton. And once Jake and JVR are gone, we will have another $10M or so to work with. Trading Ghost gets me another $4.5M in space.

How do you figure? I doubt he goes anywhere without us taking close to equal salary back. Or at least significant salary. I seriously doubt anyone gives up just picks for him.

Right, where is our version of Kucherov drafted in the 2nd round? Where is our version of Point drafted in the 3rd round? Right now the best we can show for all this drafting and developing is Provorov, TK and Farabee, is this enough? I think not! Heck Hextall couldn't even get the 2nd overall pick right!

Go through every team and ask the same question. Who are their versions of the players mentioned?

I think Frost is going to be a keeper, and Forester is sneaky good. They could be borderline stars. I hope they don't trade Frost. He is someone we need to replace the JVR and Jakes at a big cost savings too, so we can afford Dougie.

then there is this...

2006-07 was the worse Flyers team in history, lost by over 3 goals 9 times in 82 games

2021 they have lost 8 by over 3 in only 42 games.

We have our silver lining, this is not a 82 game season

So i saw a post made earlier that the "Meltdown of Hart is on par with Carson Wentz"

That is some "WIP , I'm from South Philly So I know everything" level hyperbole.

Which goalie hasn't had a season where they regressed early on in their career?

In his third season Carey Price struggled winning only 13 or 14 games.
Every successful goalie has a season or sometimes 2 where they hit a wall early on an move past it. Based n facts and reality achieving success as a goalie in the NHL isn't a linear success pattern so I'm not sure why we would expect Hart to move that way.

Is it disappointing , 100%
Is it unexpected , earth shattering or Wentz like , lulz no.

Regression is fine. Having the worst save % and GAA in the League is a joke.

What season early in Brodeur's career did he regress?

Yes, but all the other teams didn't have the mighty drafting King Hextall as their GM!

I agree with you about Foerster. With Frost I hope you are right, but my concern is his size and the type of injury he suffered to his shoulder. We have seen players never fully recover from the type of injury Frost sustained. I hope he recovers completely and adds 10 more pounds of muscle so he can withstand the grind of an NHL season.

At this point in the game I think that there are a couple of things that really should be pretty much no brainers.
1. Couturier should be shut down to have whatever he injured addressed. There is no point in him risking making it worse at this point.
2. Start playing more of the kids in top line roles. First powerplay. The prime minutes that you are supposed to have to earn through performance.
3. Sit ANYONE who lags on a backcheck takes shifts off.

They Flyers have to really see what they have for the future. With Frost injured this is a little more difficult, but they can still get a read on some of the youngsters in top 6 roles and top powerplay roles. I keep stressing this because those are the minutes that win games. Performing in those situations. Too many players on those lines and in those roles are taking them for granted. (Voracek being the most obvious).

I would not shy away from playing Lyon, or anyone for that matter who has performed in the AHL. This offseason could be really busy. But then again, it is Fletcher so it might not change a thing.

Isn’t Jones a free agent this year? If so throw him a 8 year 8 mill contract.

Yeah, why would anyone give us picks for Ghost?

Personally, if we can trade Ghost for depth/role players and sign a top four defender to play with Provorov, I’d be very happy.

My question is, who are our role players? I suggested going after Luke Gendening yesterday or a guy like him. A guy who knows his role. Calling up a random “skilled” AHL player isn’t the answer in my opinion. So who are our role players??

No, it is a historic meltdown. The Athletic provided details.

EDIT:

I could not find the article where I read the stats about how unusual Carter Hart's season has been by historic standards, so I looked up some of his stats versus Price's myself.

Price: season sv % first 3 years: 0.920, 0.905, 0.912.
Hart: season sv%: 0.917, 0.914, 0.872.

In Price's "rough" 2nd season, his sv % dropped 0.15
In Hart's rough 3rd season, his sv% dropped 0.42!

Hart's drop was about 3 times as bad as Price's drop.

I read somewhere this kind of drop was very unusual for someone who went on to be a star goalie, but I can't find the source.

But Price had about a 5/6 week stretch that year where he was at about .889 . Actually, Mason's last season as a Flyer, he was well below 90% for the first half and 92% for the second half.

Your original post asked what goalie hasn’t regressed early in his career did it not?
So, when did Brodeur regress?

The entire future is bright brigade, how’s that working out? The Flyers are an underachieving group of dogs.

Point understood, since this season is truncated, those 5-6 weeks are somewhat comparable to Hart's struggle period.

We are hoping this guy is an different category than Mason though, are we not?

The Flyers need two-way players. Laczynski is exactly that with some skill as well (although not star level skill). As long as Wade Allison stays healthy-- that's the biggest question mark -- Flyers fans are really going to like him. Outstanding shooter, plays with "snot and balls," as they say.

Mason had an underrated Flyers career; he really did. But his Flyers career home/road splits were almost like Hart's a year ago. Mason at home was comparable stat wise to the elite goalies at home. On the road, he was statistically comparable to goalies like Eddie Läck or Ondrej Pavelec; and, no, we don't want THAT for Hart.

Closer to 9 is my guess.

Landros2 said he has been erratic this year.

As I mentioned couple of days ago, a soon to be UFA player who has been traded for holds all the cards. The club that has traded for him essentially has no choice but to give in to any non-completely irrational demand,or they lose everything. For example if he want a no trade class, he probably gets it. If he wants 9+, he probably gets it.

Huge mystery, that guy.

The goalie coach strangely fired, the personal incident you refused to divulge details of, and then, just dropped off the radar....

As does Chicago.

The Blackhawks had various goalies, but they definitely won their cups with defense. Duncan Keith in his prime with Brent Seabrook was very much a 1st pair defense and Nicholas Hjarlmason shored up a solid second pair.

Bill.

I think they still need a vet that can play or support Carter in his starts.

But this summer are there any ufa goalies you would target. I don’t think they would want to spend too much which makes it tricky. Or a trade for Florida’s back up. Or would that cause controversy?

I would also like to understand how good was the team in front of Price versus this Flyers team, because Hart has been hung out to dry this year for the most part.
