Take Coots away and they're still not bad enough to be picking top-5. - Tomahawk
I said shed $ too, right?
Take away Couts and Voracek and JVR, bring in a oldish vet on a 3 year deal opposite Provy and play our youngsters heavily. I bet we would get close.
Then use picks prospects + trade returns basket to move closer if needed. |

Trade him! Do the rebuild right this time around! You guys are gonna come around to this eventually.
Cirelli+ if TB loses.
Newhook+ if Avs lose
If a team like Carolina gets closer than expected, they will be looking for a quality 2C and they have lots of good prospects.
Else, 2 firsts+ from anyone.
Next 2-3 years: lots of $ shed, lots of picks attained, lots of chaff from wheat separated in our young 'uns.
Then make some critical supplementary signings.
Resign Giroux to play vet nanny. - PT21
They won’t do it I don’t think. I’m not against trading couts at all. They’d get a haul at the deadline. |

Still maybe not enough.
Like Detroit has nobody, and they're still only 6th worst. |

I know they won't. Whatever hope there was ended when CF categorically said the coaches will return. I do not believe that AV+Therrien+Yeo are the guys to stick around for 3 years of deliberate bottom dwelling.

Its not bottom 5 or bust, you know. You do the best you can, and scoop as much as you can, and reassess and then start afresh.
Essentially what Wings are doing. No external help to move up the rankings. They will move up when the natural progression of their young players move them up.
What we should have done after 2006.

what do you have against a blonde, a brunette, and a red head?
|

In fact?
Kopitar no 100 pt seasons.
Bergeron has never broken 80pts.
Datsyuk's the only one to have come close, but he never topped 100 either.
Fine...
kopitar-Stanley cups
Bergy - Stanley cups
Datsyuk- Stanley cups

Did Fletcher actually say that? He needs to join them on the unemployment line. He's the guy that brought us Gus instead of a competent defenseman to start off the year. It'll be very tough to get behind them next year. |

Ugh. At least the 76ers are fun.
Helps being a 4 for 4 Philly fan.
...kinda
But the Flyers will always be #1 for me. This season is so disheartening. And that’s the right term, because ‘heart’ is seen few and far between. No heart. No team defense. Just a complete lack of ‘give a sh**’ outside of a few guys. |

Nah, cuz Coots is gonna have just as good a career as Kopitar and Bergy, and that seems to be enough to win a Cup with.
Datsyuk is a step above, no argument there.

In all honesty. I can see kopitar. Bergy with his 20 selke trophy’s is not only better defensively but offensively slightly better too IMO and definitely more clutch. I’d say kopitar slightly better. Bergy a step above. Pavel just on another level to be honest. The point I was making was being considered or winning selke as justification for being a clear cut #1c is just wrong IMO. I just gave those examples to show the difference between coots and other selke winners. |

Yes, well it helps when you get the top 1 or 2 picks in the draft 2 years in a row and draft in the top 10 4 years in a row. However, they have done more than draft. They have made great hockey trades as well, getting the likes of Zibanejab, Panarin and Trouba while making a good decision to resign Kreider. This is what happens when you do a rebuild properly, you draft high, you make good trades and sign the right people. And they still have $2.3M in cap space this year. Its a nice counter example to what the Flyers have done in their supposed rebuild. |

If you had to choose between Couts, Kopitar or Bergeron who do you choose? For me, I would pick Kopitar or Bergeron before Couts, but its really close.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Anthony Stolarz made 27 saves and nearly posted a second straight shutout against San Jose, Ryan Getzlaf scored his first goal in more than a month and the Anaheim Ducks completed a two-game sweep of the Sharks with a 4-1 win Wednesday night.
"Stoley played great for us," said forward Derek Grant, who also scored for Anaheim. "He made a number of big saves when we needed him to. ... It's unfortunate they got one by Stoley because he's been great these last two games."
Stolarz followed up a 46-save performance in a 4-0 win Monday night with another strong performance against the struggling Sharks.
