Makes sense. Also not many want ghost at his cap hit for what he has been bringing. And would not want to eat salary for another two years. Can just hope Seattle needs that pp quarterback.
- Peter Richards

Fletcher has subtly indicated by his words and actions that many of the Flyers' players maybe have bigger opinions of themselves than the rest of the league does. For one he stated "he has been aggressive in calling other GMs but his phone has not been ringing much at all", second he placed Ghost on waivers and no one wanted him (amazing how Ghost's play improved right after that event), third Fletcher had to cover salary and receive a very low pick just to get any team to take Raffl, a mainstay in the lineup for several seasons. This sends, at least to me, a very powerful message to this locker room that you all are not as valuable as you might thing you are!

Other late round picks top of my head that had nice careers, Yuskevich, Hextall, Eklund, Pete Peeters.

Tocchet was a 6th round pick.

Oskar Lindblom, for one. Laczynski was a 6th round pick. Phil Myers wasn't drafted at all.
- bmeltzer

My biggest concern with trading Raffl and playing Laczynski is more of the same. In Laczynski’s first game, we saw highlights of scoring with the Phantoms. Well, that’s great but I’d rather bring up a gritty player. A grinder. Add more sandpaper to this team. Bringing up Laczynski as a fourth liner in my opinion is like when we bright up Patrick Sharp, no?

Gretzky was undrafted....

Yeah this game is weird.

Just watched the Red Wings / Cane game from last night. Got to say a little bit jealous of their young players. Yeah they suck now, but looks very promising, especially if they can grab one of the big defensemen or maybe Wallstedt.

Pretty nice 25 and Under list:

Jakub Vrána (LW)
Dylan Larkin (C)
Adam Erne (W)
Filip Zadina (W)
Michael Rasmussen (C/W)
Evgeny Svechnikov (LW)
Joe Veleno (C)
Dominic Turgeon (C)
Jonatan Berggren (C/W)
Lucas Raymond (RW)

Filip Hronek (RD)
Dennis Cholowski (LD)
Gustav Lindström (RD)
Moritz Seider (RD)
William Wallinder (LD)

Victor Brattström (G)

Its amazing what you can build when you are focused on a specific rebuilding plan and execute on it, versus trying to be competitive at the same time.

I’ll skip the Ghost note, since...maybe.

However, with Raffl I believe the bigger issue with his trade is that he is currently injured and expected to be out a few more weeks. Not as many takers due to that imo. And yet still, Fletcher got a 5th rounder. Raffl clearly has good value. The salary retained is completely irrelevant with these deadline deals under the flat cap.

He does seem more the 3rd line support scoring type, but maybe they really want him to remain a center so this is a good way to ease him in. Everyone has to start somewhere.

"Nobody" is OK
The travesty is salary Retention
25% for Raffl
50% for Gustafsson just to get a 5th and a 7th
Cant even remember a single Flyer drafted in 5th round playing NHL

Bill-
Now that we presume to know the fate of this team. In looking to next season with 16 contracts and 3 RFA’s to re-sign and roughly $13MM in space, in order to target a “Dougie Hamilton” UFA (yes, he’s the most prolific available with a large drop off there after- Barrie or Savard are as well up in the list) who do you think the Flyers leave unprotected in the expansion draft now? (Hart being the 1 goalie) do they go 7/3 or 6/4. And do they leave Jake and or JVR unprotected to try to shed some more cap space?

If you protect 4 defensemen then you can only protect 4 forwards. Otherwise its 7 forwards and 3 defensemen.

Interesting that Morin is a scratch.

Is Allison the 13 th forward now? If/ when patty or Oscar need a rest hoping he gets a couple games.

The pressure is gone. Just play your game boys.

- Peter Richards

Great timing, AV...sit Morin in a game against a very physical Caps team that got bigger at yesterday’s deadline. No one else on the Flyers can do the heavy lifting Morin is capable of. This coaching staff is clueless.

Morin was playing 10 minutes a night. It is clear the coaches don't trust him. Not sure why anyone is surprised he isn't playing now that Hagg is healthy. I don'tt agree with it, what can you od?

When you say Management isn't helping, what do you mean and who are you referring to? I have heard nothing from Paul Holmgren, have you? We have seen David Scott only once and he said "he wants GM Chuck Fletcher to be aggressive in the trade market if the right player is available." What is wrong with this statement? Isn't that what we all want Fletcher to do?

- jd250

No, he said far more than that. He said he wants the team to be relevant. He said he wants the team to be aggressive and to be a cap team. In other words, to go back to how things were done under Holmgren. To his credit, I believe Fletcher held them off and didn't go crazy. Most of that may be because of the landscape in the NHL. I'm assuming that the pressure will be even greater due to this season and I think the Flyers are in a very dangerous spot.

Fletcher stood pat at the trade deadline which is exactly what you were hoping he would do. Fletcher didn't trade Laughton, but instead resigned for another 5 years which is exactly what you were hoping also. So how is management not helping? Where is the overreaction to this season by Fletcher or management? We agree Fletcher is in a tough spot, we just don't seem to agree on how Fletcher got there.

- jd250

Note that I did not state that they have overreacted to this season. Perhaps you need to review what I actually posted.

You've made the wrong reads on all 3 situations. For one, for most of the time leading up to the trade deadline, Fletcher was in buyer mode. When you're the buyer, you normally initiate the phone calls. Once Fletcher was out of buyer mode and became a seller, I guarantee he received plenty of phone calls concerning Laughton.
Second as far as Gostisbehere is concerned. It is not that teams weren't interested in Gostisbehere as a player. It's that they not interested in taking on term at the deadline. Look at the moves that were made? Players with term with I think a couple of exceptions, were not moved. It is the landscape of the league.
Thirdly, are you actually aware of how much salary was retained by the Flyers in the deals? Around 500K total in both deals. This was done so teams could fit the player in and save caps space for other deals they wanted to try and me.

You're trying to badly, insinuate that the Flyers have lousy players, so this is why all of this happened. It's a poorly thought out narrative.

Imo opinion. Regular years raffl gets a 3 rd. Why else hold on as we are out of the picture. I’ll take an extra 5 th.
