i have to say i am quite pleased with Stan's work yesterday. Can't wait to see the Leafs blow the wad again and not make it to the dance! |

Thanks good read. I was browsing some of their fan base comments and it sounds like he has offense, but not good defensively or on face offs. If his health issues are resolved and he can put on about 11 KG’s (for our north of the border friends), maybe he will be more willing to engage defensively. I like this trade, heck I would have taken a bag of pucks for Highmore. This is a no risk maybe good reward trade, time will tell. Feed that boy some midwestern steaks and have him hit the weight room. - Angotti
Uh oh he sounds like another forward on this team |

(frank)ing stupid leaves have needed defensemen for four years and as usual go shopping for forwards. |

Same reason as the Oilers moving Drasiatl to wing from center, I think he is way better being a north/south power player than east/west more edge work type of player - LAHawk
Drasiatl had one of his best years playing center with McDavid out. Don't think that holds a lot of water. |

I see your point, Dach isn’t as finished at his position as say Toews was at 20. However where the Hawks at that time needed Toews to be a center man right away this team can wait to see if Dach can grow into the position. There’s plenty of time to move him to wing but when that happens it’s likely he’ll never get the opportunity to go back to center.
This is a big reason why I really dislike moving an 18 or 19 year old straight to the NHL. Yes, Dach had a decent rookie season but I believe he should have stayed in junior another year to fully learn his game and position. Also in junior he becomes and learns leadership skills and has an opportunity to learn to win on his junior team and possibly as a member of the WJC team. And while there are players who can make the jump as an 18 year old, some players need additional time in junior/college/minors before they are ready to play in the NHL. - paulr
That's part of the goofy junior AHL NHL rules where he would have to play in the NHL or go back to bossing children.

I never said you're only able to make that comparison, only that you do it all the time. Then complain about when it gets commented on. You're such a baby. |

Roslovic was 20% at the dot last night, ouch
Dach might of not played his best game last night but he competed. Kid goes to the boards, to the front of the net, hustles back on defense.

No I’d say it’s a GM who’s trying to mimic the 80s Oilers. As much as it pains me to say he’s done some very good things. Now I hope he’s made a mistake. Unlike you, I I know all I’m capable of is flipping burgers and that every NHL GM has forgotten more about hockey than I know.

When Laine scored coast to coast Dach was right there and it seemed like he handed him off to deHaan, well we know the rest. |

Why was DeHaan beaten so easily? As usual you focus on one small part of the play and not the whole play. First of all sometimes you have to give credit for a great play. However there is almost always a mistake even when a great play occurred.
I’ll again challenge you, though you seldom respond to challenges.
Why was DeHaan caught flat footed?
Why was DeHaan not closing the gap on Laine?
Answer those questions and you find the mistake. |

None of the outgoing players would have been on the team next year except maybe Carlsson. If he survived the expansion draft he would have been the 7-8-9 defenseman, more or less an injury call-up.
Those extra draft choices are 3 to 5 years away if they contribute at all. Could also use them to sweeten a future deal, or package them to move up in the draft.
Connolly (if Seattle doesn't select him), Gaudette, Stillman, maybe Borgstrom can contribute next year. Who knows about the Rolston kid. He probably at least 3 years away. Can always re-flip the 1st three the next year or two for other assets.
Good overall TDL returns.

I liked that the Hawks were able to add some decent picks and viable prospects without giving away a chance at a playoff spot this year. I have seen some characterize the Hawks as sellers at this deadline, and that wasn't really the case. |

In no way am I defending deHaan, because he has been generally brutal this season, but....... He wasn't expected to play because of the hip pointer and he "gutted it out" according to JC and others. Because of the injury he was less mobile (which is saying something given the baseline) and got beat.
Excuse or not, even at 100% deHaan probably gets walked by Laine 7 out of 10 times, this just made it even more likely.

Like you I think DeHaan has been very average this season and I’m certainly no DeHaan apologist. I didn’t realize he was injured. But very few defensemen, even healthy would have had a chance in that situation. ADB gave up pursuit at the opposition blueline. Dach didn’t have a good angle because he came from the far boards plus he gave up pursuit at center. The lack of forward support from center didn’t allow the defensemen to stand up at the blueline to close the gap to Laine and instead had to backpedal furiously. While DeHaan isn’t a good defenseman he can’t be fully blamed for Laine’s incredible goal. |
