In hindsight... and knowing what both players went for... are you happier with Carter at 50% than Eric Staal?

Before this season started I would have said Staal. Watching both this season I’d take Carter. Some people use the “but Buffalo” but Staal looks even slower and worse now that he’s with the habs a team that can actually skate. Also a big plus especially for the pens is Carter is right handed, plays Center and RW and skates and shoots better.
Pretty even overall but IMO Carter

Staal was a shadow of himself with the Sabres, often looking like he didn't care, and he's looked the same so far with Montreal.

Overall I'm happy with Hextalls first deadline as our GM. He didn't get in on the bidding war. I believe he figured he could just land someone like Getzlaf (who may have been his other target) in the offseason. The key was he didn't sell the farm for a rental who we would lose in the offseason. Hopefully he is aggressive in free agency after the season.

I agree with this. Carter actually looked good as a winger. He had some decent chemistry with Athanasiou. I think he is a replacement for Tanev for the time being.

He's most likely gonna play. One of Rod or Gaudreau is gonna play. If they bump Canner up with Geno then Gaudreau will most like center the 4th line and Blue center the third OR Carter centers with Zuck/Rod and Blue centers the 4th. But Tanev gonna be out a while so buckle up on the Rod train.

I have to admit, with the injury updates of very key players, I don't have a ton of confidence in the Pens being a well oiled firing on all cylinders cohesive unit when the playoffs start.

I'd like to see Zoho get a good look so it's a good time to do it IMO. Hey if he works out there then maybe Rod does get pushed out and Tanev goes with normal line. Just some thoughts haha.

Yeah it was a major factor in the Isles sweep a few years back...but just like I said when Geno (and others) went down this time, and it seemed they'd be doing a lot more losing than winning, that's the beauty of sports, you never know for sure what will happen.

We'll see what happens.

Since we didn’t get a left wing, if Zucker-McCann-Carter ends up looking good, I might be on the Grinder train of looking at Zohorna on Malkin’s left when Geno and Kapanen get back. I know Rodrigues did ok there for a while, but may as well see if Zohorna has any actual upside or if he’s just pulling a Marc Donk and scoring a couple goals during injury call up and then riding off into the sunset.
