If Weber can lug around a Mete who doesn't score, maybe he can lug around a gus who does score. Maybe Weber is too old for that
- Takemedrunkimhome

Gus is definitely better than Mete, he should help the pp. he has a bit of an edge, too.
seriously. he will make some nice plays in his own zone and you think why does everyone dog this guy. then there will be a moment where he does something no one can even begin to anticipate.

At worst he sounds like he'll make the Habs more entertaining. As Yan and I said earlier, the Habs are not the most entertaining team going

You could be right, completely different styles but they need to get the PP going, it's cost them momentum, games and points... Caufield and Gus would be a big shot in the arm to that PP

Not Romanov no... Kulak probably, not every game but they'll rotate, unless one really takes off

I don't expect a 7th D to save the PP. that is up to the top dogs.

he should. since the habs don't use the umbrella as its main pp scheme it should limit the chanced for gus to get crossed up at the blue line leading to a shortie breakaway.

people really have a short memory. don't you remember how Kulak played in the bubble? and now you're telling me a guy they got for nothing will take his spot?
be serious.

I said help, not save... the guy has a bomb from the point, opposite side from Petry & Weber + add Caufield... how many times would 1 PP goal made all the difference?

They got Kulak for nothing so....

So because he had 2 good weeks 6-7 months ago his ticket in the lineup is permanently punched? I think not

What I’m worried about is that they’ll put Gustafsson on a pairing with Weber and give them first pairing minutes. He might have had 60 points 3 years ago but that was a fluke more than anything else, like Domi’s 72 points season apparently.

While Gustafsson can help the attack he plainly cannot play defence at all. With a slowed down Weber, that could go wrong in a hurry. And if those 2 new d-men mean that Romanov doesn’t play, it’s even worst. He’s the future, he needs to play, we know the Canadiens aren’t contenders yet, playing Romanov is the same as playing Suzuki at centre, got to put up with growing pains.

also what I think. they paid a 7th, and PHI retain half. imagine if they don't retain!! they pay us to take the guy? imo he'll sit and wait for an injury.
Merril, that's another story. he'll help stabilize the 3rd pair, and once Chiarot is back, I'm afraid Romanov could see some action in Laval.

they'll surely give it a try but hopefully they won't stick to that pairing for very long if it simply isn't working out

I think Gustaffson is a less productive version of Petry on that left side, his plus minus is slightly on the minus side but I also don’t know who he paired with in Chicago. We can experiment him with Weber and see
what happens, but ideally he should be paired with Petry on the pp and along with Caufield it should be fun to watch. If the team makes the playoffs it would be interesting to see what d pairings they use and how they use Romanov

Ok let’s be honest. Bergevin had a huge year.

Remember when Habs were first for 1/3 of the season? Habs aren’t yet done.

They brought two defensemen that can play and are better then Kulak, Mete, Ouellet etc.

Gustafsson had a 60pts year two years ago. He’s no savoir but maybe a gameplay like MTL could get him going. Merrill is a solid 3rd pair D. This is going to be a nice fight, 3 places for 5 D

Edmundson-Petry
Gustafsson/Charriot?-Weber
Merrill/Charriot?-Romanov.
Kulak

They could still play both Gus&Mer instead of Kulak and Romanov.

The offense had a down, Gallagher hurts but Bergevin still has a gun and it’s called Caufield.

Playoff is a new season and of course Toronto has a huge advantage over Habs but who remember Habs taking out both Pens & Washington years ago?

This ain’t finish... Habs has the tools to be good

- MONSTERSofMETALZ

Toronto has advantage over Habs in elite talent on offense but on D Habs are better. Matthews and Marner are game changer but we do have Toffoli and hopefully Caufield which can somewhat balance that. The key here can come down to coaching and goaltending, if Campbell can someone keep his regular season performance into the playoffs lookout but I really like the tandem of Price and Allen

Bergevin's message from his press conference is pretty clear, it's up to the players now to get their poop together and start winning... he didn't want to confirm they were going to give Caufield a try, but at this point they'd be foolish not to
