He could have added forward help, a few decent ones got moved IE Foligno and Mantha.
- apex123

Did you see what Washington gave up for Mantha?

Where can the Habs fit a F? When everyone is healthy Byron, Evans and Lehkonen will most likely have to sit... gonna trade for Foligno and sit Toffoli?

I will give him that much credit

Bergevin made his moves before the season even started

he made some moves here and there, but why do anything major if it won't make the Habs a contender? Keep your picks and move on

Caps are a contender. Not mtl

That's my very issue though: if they aren't good enough to compete, maximize value on Petry and it pains me to say it, but Gallagher too if he wasn't injured. If you want to take a haymaker, why take half measures? Price, Weber, and Petry certainly aren't going to improve with time.

Simon-O. Lorange @SO_Lorange

Habs will almost certainly make the playoffs. When they do Molson will throw another year on his contract and call it progress. I'd happily bet a large sum of money on this being the case

no no, give it 2 or 3 years and lets talk about that then

But Bergevin won't be there at that point, at least he should not be

Fleury for Hakanpaa and a 6th... in case you're still wondering Fido

Man.... There were plenty of guys I would have liked to grab and we ended up with 2 guys that bring very little in terms of upgrade.

Fleury, Murray, MANTHA would have been great.

Sit Toffoli. Mantha is probably better than half of our roster. I'd sit all of the scrubs you mentioned + Drouin and Armia over Mantha. I'd put Toffoli at LW since he can slot in there and then Mantha at RW. Definitely a better roster.

So, there's good enough to make the playoffs and "from there who knows?" and good enough to be considered a betting favourite, a true contender. There aren't often a lot of players available to make the former into the latter. There tend to be more depth and role players available for the latter to use in the war of attrition that is the playoffs. My opinion at least

I think Gus is a good pick up, Merrill is a good depth player and Staal will suprise come the playoffs... I think Bergy did well...

Detroit probably had no interest in shipping Mantha to a division rival

they're good enough to make the playoffs.... in the canadian division!
under normal circonstances, not sure they finish ahead of TOR, BOS, TB and FLA.

We didn't have the assets to get Mantha... Vrana, Panik, a first rd pick and a 2nd round pick come on...

Anderson, Gallagher, Caufield are all RW... I like Mantha, but the price was steep and Habs needed D

Why the (frank) are you talking about crystal balls? I'm using my eyes and my head to tell me they aren't good enough, I don't consider winning a round or two much of a success story. If your opinion is different than mine fair enough, but Bergevin clearly doesn't think much of them either by his reluctance to trade anything of value.

I'm glad we won't send Mete out there anymore.

The added guys can help.

But god dammit, we could have had Taylor Hall for a 2nd and a prospect.

Would have been the best 2nd and a prospect trade since Kovalev!
