Oh absolutely, hes my #1. I like Hughes>Clarke>Power then into like 6 or 7 forwards before the next D. But Hughes for instance, he's been ranked anywhere from 1 to 10 among different prospect sites/rankings. Its like that for pretty much every player inside the top 10.

So, theres a chance those top 3 D are the first 3 picks off the board, or we could be picking at 6 or 7 and have one fall to us. As of right now, its all completely up in the air and a "crapshoot" if you will

If we pick in the top 5 I think there's a real good chance we land one of the Dmen you listed, seems most boards have Beniers and Eklund up near the top now. If we fall out of the top 5 I think I'd want to see them get Guenther playing both wings and scoring at a goal per game clip in the WHL seems enticing. I mean they have to draft someone that can put the puck in the net sooner or later, I hope. But like you said, this season being what it was for a lot of these prospects I'm sure teams rankings are all over the place.

Definitely agree. Unless we go off the board with our pick i don't really think we can go wrong if we're in the top 7 or 8, which we almost certainly will be. I do believe if any of those 3 D are on the board we take them, but its not a bad consolation prize to end up with any of the forwards in that range.

The first 7 or 8 or so picks of this draft remind of the big tier at the top half of the 1st round last year. Laf/Byfield/Stutzle were the clear top 3, but then 4 through 11 was a huge tier where any of those players couldve gone in any order. So if we stay within that tier and don't reach(like Buffalo did with Quinn) we'll end up with a solid prospect.

Can't go wrong with any of Hughes, Clarke, Power, Eklund, Beniers, Johnson, or Guenther. You could make a legitimate argument for any one of them to be the #1 pick. Some people also put Edvinsson and/or Lysell into that tier and i can get behind that, but i personally would only take them if we drop back far enough and the first 7 guys are gone. Also will be interesting to see how high the goalie Wallstedt goes.

I could be wrong, but i think McKenzies updated draft rankings should be coming out soon. Im interested to see how much its changed since December with the players starting to play more since that was released

Guy is a rookie. He’s average until he establishes himself otherwise. Average doesn’t mean bad.. that would be below average.
- MartysBetter88

So Crosby was average his first season because he didn’t establish himself?

The drafting mantra should be best player available. If we are honest this team needs help in all areas. This year is tough because its been hard to scout players and truly evaluate them. But still, do not draft a dman because our prospect pool is weaker there. Draft best player based on whatever evaluation you were able to make, and that might be a Dman. Improve the team.

His argument doesn't exactly make sense, but oh well.

No Wood on the ice for warmups, and looks like we're going with 7 D:

Kuokkanen-Hughes-Sharangovich
Johnsson-Hischier-Merkley
Maltsev-Boqvist-Studenic
McLeod-Bastian

Murray-Severson
Smith-Subban
Siegenthaler-Tennyson
Butcher

Well Wood now joined warmups late with about 4 minutes left. So if he plays, looks like Tennyson may be in for Butcher

Kind of totally different comparing a 100pt season to Sheshterkin's numbers. A bit easier for a goalie to get hot than a player to be scoring at that clip and visually dominating the ice every shift. Shesterkin certainly looks good so far, but it's not like he's Vasy or anything. He's a young kid off to a good start.

I am always in favor of BPA but I'll be a little disappointed if we don't get a Dman. While we still need some help up front, I feel like we are in a much better place to address that with the prospects we have and UFAs.

If devil's don't score this period that's 180+ mins of game action without a goal or 3 games

This is what happens when you trade all of your vets away. You have rookies playing expanded minutes in all areas and they are learning on the job. It's just going to be a brutal stretch to end the season but hopefully they can build on it and gain some experience.

Special teams(penalty kill) once again ruining a game, and that boneheaded too many men penalty. Devils were the better team at 5v5, and have absolutely nothing to show for it. Too many games this season are straight up lost because of our horrible special teams. Something needs to change in the offseason

You're not wrong about that lol. Definitely seems like whats happening here, if this is what's gonna happen the rest of the way theres a legitimate chance Buffalo passes us

Just keep thinking they have next to no actual practice time to teach these kids how to NHL.. and now there’s no vets to show them on the ice.
