Jets settle for Jordie Benn for a 6th after not prying away Z from the Hawks.

He had a great day IMO and didn't waste anything in a desperate effort to make the playoffs. He brought bodies in to replace the guys that went out the door and is telling the team to keep playing boys.
- RickJ

Exactly. He added some picks plus some other lottery tickets with some development under their belts. All for guys signed to small deals and a guy grabbed off of waivers.

More importantly, traded none of players in long term plans to make a run at the playoffs like you said.

Like I mentioned, the guys they picked up are players they have watched extensively. Something about their games intrigued the scouts. The Hawks amateur and Euro scout I trust far more than the pro scouts. Tho, they did make some changes in the pro scouting department in the last year.

I'm not so sure I prefer Z over Benn, tbh.

Are you sure you are not getting your Benn's confused? Jordie is not much better than Z.

From what I've seen in a one season sample size, Benn historically is better on the defensive end in terms of fewer gaffes and better defending in general. Yes, he does not make the big hits of Z, but he also doesn't make the big defensive mistakes.

He did, to Colorado for two prospects, one of which is at Notre Dame and may have some potential.

OOps. Thought they snagged Bowey off waivers. Signed him off a PTO.

I think we all can agree bowman did very well today B+ grade imo.
- Scott1977

I am looking deeper at the significance of the trades.
I feel that we have better players to bring in if you have seen enough to expect that their ceiling is good. When I say better, I mean the players who.come in will produce or give a style of play with at least equal or greater scoring + the big point....better physical checking in the overall compete level.

Barret, Altybarmaken, Entwhistle, Slavin, the ND kid who played WJC last Christmas. Also would not surprise if both McLaughlin and Soderlund step up next season. The good Morrison is intriguing but needs time to return from a lost season

Those are the bottom line players and some may even prove capable to slide up to L2 for a while.

Re Johnson is just a depth guy, not much offensive ability but don't sell him short. He can produce some goals but he can be inserted and will go hit everyone. Stirs up his team. Another youngster sits for most of a period on bench, then after seeing Johnson hit people, that will push another to check hard

Presently Reichel and Borgstrom are the top end skill forwards prospects. Then we have the 2021 draft plus Nylander returns hungry.

I wish those who love that long time Russian prospect Shulanov, get over him. He seems like he is hot and cold, needs motivation and goes through stretches like Bickel did. Can offer much all around game when he is "on." I will take a pass on him.

Yes, I'm sure. They both suck. Just one does it for cheaper.

So does Gaudette make Strome more expendable? A better skating version of the same defensively lacking C?

What are we to make of the Hawks not trading Strome? They see him as a long term fixture, or nobody wanted him?

Stan got a 3rd with no retention. What was he thinking? Haha.

This is one of the better trade deadlines in recent history

- ikeane

A 3rd for Magic Gus and he used the pick on Wyatt Kaiser. Looks pretty promising so far.

Nick DeSimone... Wasn't he the opening act for Dean Martin at the Sands back in the 60's?
- boilermaker100

No, you’re thinking of Joey Callo or was that Vinnie Gambini?

Well if he can get a 2nd and 3rd for Janmark, i imagine he'll be able to do the same with Strome next year. I really like all the layers of picks and prospects Bowman is creating, who knows maybe they'll make Gaudette a wing to

I wouldn't trade Z either if they were only offering a 6th. Let them have the old man who's not a rfa.

Strome makes Strome more expendable. Gaudette needs to be on the wing. He isn't a center at this level no matter how much the Canucks tried to put him there.

While I am no fan of Strome, Strome is far better offensively than Gaudette.

None of the above. He is relatively cheap and still can be moved in the off-season.
