i don't think Mete will come in and take that top 4 role from Brannstrom........i think Branny will be given every opportunity to take that #2 LHD spot (with Zub) and only if he poops the bed will Mete be given that spot.............
.........but with DJ, who the hell knows. if Mete was a bigger body, all around type player, i'd be more worried as that seems to be "DJ's type", but Mete is essentially Brannstrom, but older with a seemingly lower ceiling. both small (5'9, 185lbs), PMDs - sensarmy_11
Brannstrom never had a solidified top 4 role. So nothing is really being taken away if it happens. Everyone is assuming the ice time will be handed to Brannstrom now that Reilly is gone. It may occur. It may not. It will be interesting to see. Mete sort of got lost in the shuffle in Montreal with a more established blueline. Sens will def play him to see if he is worth keeping around or not. Not much point getting him off waivers if you don't do that.
In my opinion, both are probably sort of interchangeable right now. Would be nice to see Brannstrom get going to show something for that Stone trade. |

Put Mete with JBrown, Ebrannstrom with Zub, and put Gudbranson to pasture. Local boy I like, 4M for a total on-ice liability, not so much. You don't need a pylon to protect your young guys - believe it or not, there are players out there who can drop glove and actually play hockey at the same time. Ottawa's cap positioning has us primed to be potentially big players in FA in a year where nobody will be inclined to overpay. Not to say we'll be a cap team, but we sure are in a prime position to land some real players given the flat cap and how many contenders are pressed up against it. EM's frugality might actually pay off thanks to this pandemic. |

I think this is very much on target. There are not many teams able to bid on high end UFA. Most teams need to go "all in" just to sign their own RFA talent. There is less competition and less dollars available for UFA signings. But, nobody will be offering long term 7 year deals. Big dollars yes. Maximum 3 year term.

Don't forget our expensive pending rfa
Brady needs a deal. It'll likely be similar to Chabbot's. |

Nashville....I don't know what we had to pay them.
But thank god.

Gudbrannson gone. I assume Josh Brown will get more reps with some youth splitting time. Should be interesting. |

I see Bernard-Docker, Zub and Zaitsev holding down the three RD spots until the end of the year. Josh Brown will only see limited action and probably on the left D side. |

7th rounder in 2023. I wasn't expecting this many trades, even if most of them were small. |

Well, that's quite a radical shift in mindset. So much for the premise of needing veterans on the blue line... Zaitsev is rather bizarrely cast as the elder statesman of the defense, Brown/Zub bescome the 2nd/3rd oldest at just 27/25, and Brannstrom, Mete, and Bernard-Docker are all 22 or younger.
If nothing else, it's starting to look like the blue line of a young team with upside, as opposed to one collected from a salary cap flea market.

Mete better than Coburn. Gave up nothing for him.
PD turns Ltir into a 2nd, 7th and Dzingel. Pretty good work. Almost makes up for the Murray signing. Still doesn't make up for the Stone trade.

Do the Sens have the smallest defense in the league now? They are going to be thrown around. I know most people on this board don't care for Gudbranson but you'll see how valuable he is in these next 15 games.
Boro and Gudbranson could be on the same line... yikes, lol |

We talked about this at the start of season that the Sens D would "tough to play agaisnt", and the end result was them getting outplayed and outskated almost every game. |

Don't have an issue with Gubby. As a 7th D, I FB he was making $1 mill, he'd be okay, if for no other reason than to keep people from taking shots at Timmy. But for next years team, he takes a spot that JBD should have. At least with him gone, we get to finally see what we have in Brannstrom and exactly who Mete is.
Really surprised no one threw a 3rd or 4th at Sens for Dzingel. Might mean he is coming back next year. Wouldn't mind Reilly coming back on a one year deal. |

Can we get a blog at some point explaining how the hell Ottawa is still cap compliant after today?
