Unless it's some crazy move I hope the Pens are done. I've warmed up to the move more and more, and while it's not what I was expecting I'm content. Don't (frank) it up with some last minute awful trade.

Which again, I'm happy with. I would have maybe liked an extra middle-six LW so we could have a Zucker-McCann-Carter line, but I think the Pens made it ok.

Yeah I like the Carter trade way more after everything settled. No top 6 guys really moved besides Hall, who was obviously undervalued, but there were some pretty bad overpays today. We ended up getting an offensive third liner for pretty fair. Not sexy, doesn’t really move the needle, but will make us better when healthy. Optimized lines probably look like this:

McCann-Malkin-Kapanen
Zucker-Blueger-Carter
ZAR-Gaudreau-Tanev

Not overly impressive, but I think that is “anything can happen” territory.

If Blueger isn’t the 3C then you have a 4th liner in Gaudreau playing 3C. Unless you have Carter playing 3C in which case you get a 4th liner in Evan Rodrigues playing 3RW. I think you can argue that Tanev is top 9 if you want, but ZAR definitely isn’t.

I think it's very difficult, even for very good teams to have that kind of depth where you can basically swap everyone up and down the lineup in case of emergency. I'm not saying the Pens have the best depth, but I think it's well-rounded. The fact the have a couple of fourth-liners who can come up right up and make for a solid fourth line while other guys get moved up says a lot.

We sometimes take for granted having quality fourth line players. It's not as easy as it seems to find them.
