probably, though i would like to see them re-sign him.
depth defense and could slot in at wing on 4th line - NYRangers1124
I really like what Smitty has turned it around to become for us. But, with what we have on the way, he and Hajek both have to go.
Not today, but before next season.

#NYR do make a trade deadline addition: Rangers are close to signing 3rd-round pick Zac Jones out of UMass after winning the national title.
Jones will report to Rangers, he’s burning the first year of his deal and #NYR expect him to be in lineup after quarantine.

I am a big fan of this kid, was VERY impressed watching him the past week. However, he is currently too small and weak in the upper body. I think we are setting him up to fail if we play him right away. Thinking of the Islanders 4th line last night, how is this kid supposed to clear the crease of guys like Martin and Clutterbuck?
Neal Pionk looks big next to Jones --- let him lift weights for a year and see him play THEN, not now!

Getting him here can show him what it takes to compete at this level. Maybe he comes in and sees what has to be done and works on it in the off season.

does taxi squad count as "in the lineup"? mayb just want him practicing with the team since his season is done?

however it works out
the most important thing is that the Rangers have control over his development now, not some school

would rather it be smith - NYRangers1124
Smith and Jones are a different bread of hockey player. IF they re-sign smith, than my guess is Hajek. Ranger's brass is much higher on Smith's play than Hajek.
