I remember watching Gordie Clark call Kravtsov's name at the draft and I was FURIOUS we didn't take Walstrom. Boy was I wrong
- ELew11

Still too early to tell, but Kravs looks more like a complete player and Walstrom is simply a shooter

Teams haven’t been shy in shopping their cap space. NJD, Det and SJ have all been used as a broker to remedy cap issues to this point. The NYR have approximately $9 mil in space and are among those clubs willing to facilitate financially complex trades as well.

Wonder what this could mean. I smell new rules coming next season.

Rangers could be one of those teams that accepts a 4th rounder to keep 25% of somebody's cap hit to facilitate a deal, that kinda thing

There needs to be changes. Tampa got Savard and are only getting 25% cap hit
and this nonsense about not needing to be cap compliant in the payoffs is BS too

Yeah, they're definitely circumventing the cap. They look to be faltering a bit though. With Stamkos out and Kucherov questionable who knows what might happen to them?

Elew. Didn't you see what happened with the Lottery. It is only when the Rangers get a benefit, then they will initiate rule changes.

Zac Jones assessing himself. Pretty self-aware of where he is at...

“Honestly, I want to come back next year,” he said. “I don’t think I’m ready to play pro hockey. I don’t think I’m big enough yet for it and I think that extra year in college next year and this year, and a big summer this year, will help me.

“Hopefully [I’ll] be able to sign after my junior year, but if that doesn’t happen then so be it. I just want to play pro hockey when I’m ready to play at this level and then move on to the next.”

That's fine. Let him grow and mature. We can wait, and stagger out the ELCs

I must be missing something. How have we had $9M in cap space but couldn’t fit in Morgan Barron and had worries about Krav fitting? A trade like that would make a ton of sense if that’s true.

Smith also picked an interesting day to have his best game of the season. Don’t expect much else, but hopefully still a fun day, usually one of my least productive work days of the year.

That shows some maturity to be able to self-assess about his hockey development needs and even his size. Mentally mature players are a boon for the Rangers. I agree, let him continue to develop his game. No need to rush him, especially if he doesn't think he is ready.

Would this be the first season ever where the rangers make zero trades? I honestly can’t remember that ever happening in the past

this is all due to the rookie bonuses

the Rangers had to be careful, what if Lafreniere went on a 10 game goal scoring streak and suddenly was a 3.75 million player?

that's the unknown they are dealing with all these rookie bonus contracts

They traded Lemieux. But would be a quiet year for sure.

in 2012, we traded a 5th rounder for John Scott

so in 2012 we made no trades

Still probably Quinn's fault for not giving him a bigger role though, no?
