Hm. What about an aging star? We keep talking about Kupari, could we squeeze a guy like Kopitar in? Im sure he doesnt want to spend the last decade of his career on a rebuilding team and wants to win again while hes still got some juice in the tank.

We talked about this a couple weeks ago. Nils can play both sides effectively. He played the left side most of the year in the SHL. Not saying he'll do that at the NHL level, but flexibility is never a bad thing when constructing an NHL roster.

I thought that too but he plays left side on the power play and when his teammate was out but right side the rest of the time.

Regardless, I think Jones - Schneider will be an AHL pairing to start next year and Nils will comfortably be on the right side, at least to start out.

"We have a plan in place and nothing that came along was going to add to what we wanted to do."

That's the surprise move of the day. Vrana needs to get paid next year, so this is about the best the Caps can do to stay in contention for the next few years.

Vrana gets almost no power play time so his numbers are pretty impressive when you factor that in.

We did exactly what I thought we would do, nothing. And that's what we should have done. If we really want to try to squeeze into the playoffs don't screw with the chemistry we have. Save it for the off season

Definitely an overpay by the Caps, but I get why they did it. I am surprised LG didn't get included since I know the Caps were eyeing him. That would have at least made it slightly more even.

My takeaway is that this trade never happens without the flat cap and the offseason may get pretty interesting with trades centered around contract swaps.

Doesn't Bitetto still need almost 10 games to be expansion draft compliant?

I think we can all agree that we don't need to see any more of Howden. I hope they just give Barron all of the minutes they would normally give to Howden and see how he performs.

Either way Bitetto is compliant. They bumped the 2 years games number down from 70 to 54 due to the 56 game season. Only relevant if ADA were to be traded before the expansion draft.

Frankly, I rather dump him in a trade with some retention than have any more wasted $ on the books 2 years from now.
