Isn't that because Flyers pretty much always lack high end talent?

Their players go elsewhere and play supplementary roles for which they are better suited and thus shine.

- PT21

Ding ding ding.

Carter is probably the one exception. Richards was already declining when we moved him.

So a cap strung team, that sucks poop with players no one wants. Seems like an enviable position to be in.

There are a ton of players on the block. Not every puppy will find a new home.

Horse poop that no one would want Laughton. He hasn’t scored in 12 but he’s a solid piece that can move all around a lineup and play in different situations. That’s a nice piece to add at his cap number

The Islanders traded for Braydon Coburn's corpse. I would think Laughton and Raffl have more value than him.

In some cases, but it's easier just to say they are placed in the role that fits them for their team.

Justin Williams, Sergei Bobrovsky, JVR, Patrick Sharp and Joni Pitkanen say hi. All top players on their new teams.

I'm starting to think that the GM job in the NHL is more about who you get along with and/or are friends/familiar with....

Seems like a lot of the same GMs year after year tend to be able to make moves where fans seem to scratch their heads asking "Why couldn't we do that or have a better deal?".

Maybe the Flyers need a GM who has a better rep around the league.

I'm sure we could get a 7th rounder for Laughton and Raffl

How are we still in rumors for players like goligoski?

Doesn’t make sense now.

That's where you're mistaken. For a player who get zero PP time, his production is solid for a player in his role.
- MJL

Yes, but why doesn't he get PP time? You would think a player like Patrick would be easy to supplant on the PP, right?

If I had one word summary for the Flyers franchise, it would be: dishonesty. A failure to accept who they are. It is fitting that Comcast owns them.

1. They constantly behave as though they are NHL royalty, with their tradition and their glory and so on. Truth: they are NHL mediocrity. Not too many guys want to come here. Their record speaks for itself.

2. They always end up signing good but not great players to long term deals and sell them as stars on an -about-to-contend club: the grist for the box office mill.

3. They talk about a "bias for action": knowing full well that they are in a mess with the Voracek, Hayes, and JVR contracts and it will take years to sort out and the only action that can be taken will be changing the clothes of a sick person.

4. They constantly hype up their young players when in truth they are squarely in line of Flyers drafts: good but nothing special guys.

5. They know in their hearts and minds that the logical thing to do for future contention would be to trade Giroux and Couturier, and accept who they are now and start a rebuild. But they won't. That would be too honest and too injurious to bottom line. They will pretend this season is an anomaly. All because for 2 months (2 months!) last year they were one of the best clubs in the league.

6. They will do some absurd deal this summer and hold salary and trade prospects to get rid of Jake or JVR, possibly for say Ellis. The club will be nowhere in the ballpark of contention, but they will talk as though they are.

Veteran with Stanley Cup winning experience. And 7th round pick.

If all we got for Raff was a 7th, would you be singing Chucky's praises? Methinks not.

It's time for Chuck Fletcher, a complete wet noodle, to accept the realities of the current state of the franchise. They haven't been the same since the Covid outbeak in the room and imo they've lost their identity since Dave Scott took over.

This team isn't good enough to compete for a Cup as they are and they're getting older to the point where their top scorers are all in the 30's. I know Dave Scott wants them to always be competitive but you just can't trade your way to the top like you used to be able to.

Did the Sabres get a second round pick and a roster player for a guy with 2 goals this year?
Devils got a first rounder for two players that have combined for 15 goals. Fletcher has to do something to keep up with the other bottom feeders.

Place your bets, place them now!

1) Trade deadline comes and not one single move is done for the Flyers

2) Minor swap of nothing

3) Major move for the future
