The Flyers are in a very dangerous position. They obviously have to make some changes. However if upper management overreacts to this season, that could spell trouble moving forward. We've already seen how some trades and a UFA signing has not elevated the team. The Flyers two significant free agent signings, Hayes and JVR have not significantly elevated the team. They need to add a defenseman and possibly tweak the forward ranks. However if they attempt to use free agency, salary retention, buyouts etc and scramble up the cap. The run the risk of again becoming just a good team, in the 2nd tier of the league in a cap crunch. They should not mess up how Hextall set the team up.

I don't see the Fletcher making major deals today, I really don't. Nashville is no longer a seller and I don't see teams wanting players like Jake and JVR. But this off season Fletcher has to make more significant changes, it must be a lot more than simply adding a defenseman and tweaking the forward group.

That’s what I thought...that’s high for a 3rd-4th line guy.

Laughton has played top 6 and has done reasonably well the last 2 years, especially last years playoffs.

Laughton on another team and used correctly could be a steal of a signing.

I don't think Laughton is getting a raise in a flat cap era. Just my idiot opinion and I reserve the right to be wrong.
- Doc_Sarcasm

If that’s the case then they should keep him. Let’s hope your right.

He'll definitely get a raise. Someone will offer him that.

My guess is the Flyers don't make any moves today.

Why wouldn't Fletcher trade the UFA's?

No doubt. Flyers need to figure out where they see him. If he's a top 9 forward, then you look to bring him back. If they see him as a 4th line center moving forward, then you trade him today for whatever they can get and say goodbye.

I’m not thinking it will be today...but we can hope. But obviously to do nothing just won’t happen. He can’t make moves, and to be clear I’m sure he wouldn’t, make moves to appease the fan base ..
- landros 2

Look, this team is finished for the 2021 season, so today has to be about getting ready for the the 21-22 season. So it about clearing cap space, opening roster spots for younger players to gain experience and obtaining assets for future moves.

Why wouldn't Fletcher trade the UFA's?
- PLindbergh31

They aren’t mathematically eliminated and it’s not in the organization’s DNA to give up the slight possibility of post season profits.

As much as I like Laughton, I see him as a fringe top 9 player at best. You saw this year what little production he gives you when playing in the top 6. So today may be goodbye for him.

I should have said "much of a raise", I don't think its going to be in that 3M+ range though. Now, there always seems to be one sucker at the table who overpays, but I don't think its going to be Laughton who is the beneficiary of this. That will go to a player with better numbers.

How are we still in rumors for players like goligoski?

Doesn’t make sense now.

So a cap strung team, that sucks poop with players no one wants. Seems like an enviable position to be in.

Pretty sure ancestry.com says the organization's DNA comes from Dumbf*ckistan.

That's where you're mistaken. For a player who get zero PP time, his production is solid for a player in his role.

Yeah the Flyers have a way of making many players look bad for some reason. Weird how a decent amount of players leave and look better on new team or when they bring in a player that had previous success and somehow look like half the player.

Isn't that because Flyers pretty much always lack high end talent?

Their players go elsewhere and play supplementary roles for which they are better suited and thus shine.
