Except that Myers was undrafted and was a camp invitee that impressed with his raw talent. There are plenty of guys from his draft year that never made it to the NHL. His trajectory upwards is understandably longer than others, but at least he has a trajectory upwards, unlike others his same age. Hence, it is reasonable to give him more time, especially considering his strong play prior to this year. If you think otherwise, fine. But you're assessment of him is dead wrong. Especially considering the fact that people much smarter than you that make a living in hockey see things very differently. - Letterkenney
Are you seriously that clueless or just pretending? I have said I think he will be fine. I just think it’s asinine that anyone would suggest by playing with Provorov has had any role in his regression. I agree his stronger play previous eliminates the issue of being rushed as he has shown he better then what his current level is showing. This is simply a younger guy making to many of the same mistakes over and over and that shouldn’t be happening.
Yes Myers wasn’t drafted but he promptly made the Canadian jr team as a 19 year old so to suggest he came from no where shows me how little you actually know about the player. He’s in his 3rd year in the NHL and has played more the 200 professional games and he needs to be better. So get a clue before you post a comment like that.
The number of elementary mistakes you have made in this post is quite frankly, deeply dispiriting.
1. The issue under discussion is Stanley CUP WINNER. Not finals appearances. Nobody said anything about Finals appearance.
2. look at your own data. Average out the ranks you have provided in the column on the left. You get the average league rank of Stanley cup winner to be 6.5 out of 30 odd!!! If it was luck, you would have had 15.
I mean, DUDE!!!!!
EDIT: Even more convicingly, the average rank is 5.5, not 6.5. If that is not correlation for you, I don't know what is. - PT21
You keep forgetting that you stated that teams in hockey NEVER stumble into playoffs and then get hot. You're simply wrong. You should just man up and admit it.

There you go again. In a post in a previous thread you claimed that you never insult other posters personally. If never means on a regular basis, then yea, I guess you're right on that.

Not discounting that he should and could be better, and that this year has been a struggle for him. But being overly critical without context is what I read into your comments. Sorry if I'm wrong about your position but did not have time to back read every comment. Too many tonight.

Save yourself some time and don't bother reading PT21's posts. He's way smarter than you and you'll never understand his superior intellect. He's too smart and you're to stupid. Like the rest of us. After all, he's an adjunct college professor. Super smart. [sarc]

I'm going to fill you in because that poster falsely represents the position that was made by me. He's actually done that 2-3 times now. It is my contention that Myers being asked to take on more responsibility including playing on the top pairing, taking a bigger bite of the PK and being elevated and relied on more and playing on a team that all season has been dysfunctional defensively, has greatly contributed to Myers poor individual play. Not to say that Myers is immune from individual responsibility but defense is a difficult position to play. Even more when the situation lacks team support. Like you tried to educate that poster, players development curve is all different. It's fair to say he needs to be better because he does. However to ignore the situation that Myers has been in as a factor is just ignorance.

That’s all I’ve said...enough of the excuses . I like Myers but like most i’m disappointed in his play this year. I hope he’s better next year....I have not written him off. He’s a 24 yr old d man with all the tools. I still hope and think he’s a big part of the Flyers future. Some here like to write their own narrative. I simply try to say what I see.
Top-5 ranked team Cup Finals appearances: 15/30
Everybody else Cup Finals appearances: 15/30
Top-5 ranked teams W-L record vs Everybody else teams: 6-5
- Tomahawk
By the way, TH, I wanted to respond to this separately as it is a different issue from what we were discussing, but there is a separate logical error in the bolded above.
You see, top 5 ranks are composed of 5 teams obviously. But the everyone else is as much as 5 times that. You have to normalize.
What you did is like the following:
Numbers of murders in Philadelphia in 2019: 351: Numbers of Murders in Rest of PA: 318. Thus, the chances of getting murdered is the same in Philly as it is in the rest of the state.
But it is not, of course. Philly has much less people than the rest of the state. So, you have to control for that.

I am not sure where you got the adjunct prof from (its not true) but that's besides the point.
Coming from a dude who still suggests that a HDC regimen be used as a prophylactic because it has been used for so long by so many, the average cow is probably smarter than you.

Maybe you're right. We should trust an adjunct professor from Philly before we trust thousands of physicians who are actually successfully treating #ChineseVirus for over a year now. And that Nobel Laureate from France that discovered the treatment. Let's face it. Political science is much more important that medical science. Too bad the rest of the world doesn't know how smart you are. You should tell them.
He is talking about Taylor Hall. Its a hockey site, after all.
Btw, why are so many fans here enamored of luck as an explainer of life?
Even as life becomes ever more deterministic, (and your parents social class, your schooling, level of education, your genes, your browsing history etc. etc. become ever more predictive of your outcomes in life), and as sports becomes ever more analytical, (with numerical values of picks, and analytics, and multiple camera angles and so on and so forth, I am hearing more and more this luck story over here, more than anywhere else I know of).

The great thing about PT21's insults is that they're not really insults to his intended target, but are actually insults to himself. He's just too smart to recognize it.
