I hope they play morin the rest of the way, and if he keeps playing pretty well, he should be re signed.

I’m not giving up on the kid but he had a very bad season, the team was bad and part of the problem but he was a disaster and need to be much better. Someone mentioned that him playing on the top pair derailed his season. He played 5-6 games with Provy, that had nothing to do with him having a bad season
- ClaudeFather

That person who suggested this is insane. Myers playing on the top pair for a couple games had nothing to do with his bad season.

I think you're right about fletch having a move ready just in case. I couldn't be happier that we signed laughton!

I don't think chuck would have signed him if he didn't intend to retain him... At this point we are looking at losing OL or NP, imo.

I hate this expansion draft coming up I feel it really held some teams back this season because of it.

So seattle may sign any UFA but it's up to the UFA to agree to it? I was honestly hoping for a handshake deal with laughton and let h hot FA but have a deal already lined up after the draft.

I guess in a perfect, non covid world that would have been a solid move by CF

Toronto media really funny. They’re calling the leafs contenders and that that can easily as a group, go from not ever having won a playoff series to winning it all. Looking at who their opponent will be in the semi finals and discussing how to beat Tampa and colorado haha. I’ll laugh if they lose to say Winnipeg in round 2.

Speaking of dumb arguments, stating that Myers with his level of experience shouldn't be making mistakes with regularity. Myers has played 102 NHL games I believe. He is not a highly experienced player. He is still in his infancy of his NHL career.
- MJL

Agreed. Myers is still very much a young, developing player. It’s comments like that one you’re responding to, is the problem with fans. Somehow, someway these kids have to be leading the league in scoring and winning hardware by age 22.

If Myers still needs to be babied why aren’t you guys holding Chuck accountable for throwing him into a 2nd pairing role with no solid backup option?

It’s like there’s an excuse for everyone with some of you. Year 12 they’re gonna get it right tho.

Fletcher has an early evening game of Twister with Stewart and Prosser planned.
- PLindbergh31

Ha ha Dave Stewart that stoned crazy Eurythmics guy Fletcher brought in. He got 1 point 3 staged fights in 16 games and minus 7 🤧

Mistakes are one thing, the kid was mightily struggling and needed games off
- ClaudeFather

No question about that. He has gone from being a very promising RH mobile young defenseman with size to looking like he can't play. What do you attribute that to?

Carter Hart went from being a highly regarded young goaltender who many thought had the potential to be a top 5 NHL goalie to looking like he couldn't stop a beach ball. He needed a week away from the team. What do you attribute that to?

Pretty much went the way I thought it would go today, Raffl and Gust gone for a bag of pucks, Laughton resigned to a fair deal given he was a UFA after this season. Now he has to be protected in the expansion draft which given the Flyers did nothing else today they should have no problem doing. Overall .. Sigh ... another lost season in the books.

People keep using this as if its a fact. Just because a commenter thinks the team is 2-3 years away doesnt mean they are. There is no magic amount of years to become a contender. Its always variable. Depends on the young players development, do they develop fast or slow, injuries then you have to account for your Vets and when will they decline.

Even then being a contender is meaningless. It just means you look like a cup winner on paper. If you get in to the playoffs anything can happen. All you need is to get hot at the right time

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

This is not true. Almost always, in hockey a team that ends up winning has a very strong regular season, especially 2nd half of the season. Teams in hockey never stumble into playoffs and then get hot, like what happened to Giants when they upset the Pats perfect season.

19-20: TB: well over 100 point + pace
18-19: Blues: 99 points
17-18: Was: 105 points
16-17: Pittsburgh 111 points
15-16: Pitt: 104 points
14-15: Hawks: 102 points
13-14: Kings: 100 points
12-13: Hawks: Way over 100 points pace
11-12: Kings: 95 points
10-11: Bruins: 103 points.

Alternatively, looks at Cup odds at start of playoffs historically :

Those are 16 teams, with average odds about +1700. Only twice in the last 36 years has someone won the cup with odds worse than that. Only once in the last 25 (LA Kings in 2012).

A lot of you seem to want this process to be much more random than it is.

Yeah, Seattle basically gets to 'tamper' with everybody's pending UFA's prior to the draft and see who they can convince to play for them. If the player indicates they want to sign, then Seattle could use a draft selection on them. Or they could just gobble up the player on July 1 free and clear. Kind of an odd system, but it is what it is.

Flyers are pretty much locked into 7F/3D after they showed that they don't care if they lose Ghost. I expect JVR to be protected, since he had a good year and there's no replacement for him. Who knows, maybe Jake is protected too. I'm not entirely sure Seattle would take NP if he were available.

If the Flyers leave Voracek and JVR unprotected, they can protect both Patrick and Lindblom

4 years in jr., 2 seasons in the AHL, parts of 3 seasons in the NHL. Is a 24 year old d man with all the tools to be a very good player...100 plus games in the NHL...over 200 professional games.....but he’s not a 19 year old rookie....he’s making mistakes and as the coaching staff has pointed out these are being pointed out to him game in and game out. He shouldn’t be making these same mistakes every game. He is not in his infancy he’s a young player that’s struggling....(frank)ing excuses around here for some of these players are laughable.... it’s the NHL ladies...not some scrub league. The training wheels need to come off. If he continues to struggle then it’s on him...it’s not like he’s learning a new position...he needs to get his poop together if he’s going to play a regular shift on any NHL blue line.

Ummm...the team you root for the Philadelphia Flyers, stumbled into the playoffs winning a shootout in the last game of the season to qualify to the playoffs in2010. They then got hot and made it to the Cup finals.

Partially yes...CF is responsible for not giving the coaching staff better options. I still think Myers will get this turned around. I think CF did a poor job this year, but I don’t think you give anyone a pass. The Flyers need to figure out why some of these young guys regressed...is it coaching? Is it the leadership group? Are they not that good ?

Fletcher is misunderstood by present time like Munch, Warhol and Van Gogh. His work will be understood in the distant future.

😆 You said the same thing about HeX, and that A Mac was a world class Top 4 NHL D legend.

Here is a stat for you. Cale Makar is 22 years old, he has 76 points in 89 games and is a plus 29. Makar is already one of the best defenseman in the league!

Now I am not expecting Myers to score points like Makar, but I am expecting someone who is 24 years old and into his 3rd NHL season, while also playing 109 games for the Phantoms (you conveniently leave out this stat), to be able to play solid defense and smartly use his size and reach. But, nope, he can't do that. He can't take coaching apparently and he certainly does not have the will to take a hit and play physical. And given his offense is just about non-existent, not sure why I would put him in the lineup honestly.

I remember when Primeau et al threw Barber under the bus, there was an end of season press conference where he said essentially that people have bad years but "explain why all of us had a bad year."

That was just 1 season removed from the Jack Adams, iirc.

The Flyers are not protecting JVR, that is a contract I think they would like to get out of for sure.

Until they make the changes they need to I’m done rooting for them. I’d kind of like to be able to root for them sooner rather than later.

Never said they all suck. For years I’ve been saying this is a poor mix of players. They barely do anything well as a unit year after year. Idk why people think minor tweaks to the roster will change that. They need to add at the very least a legitimate top 4, if not top 2 d man and free up one of these winger spots and get some high end offensive talent for a change.
