So, what was the point of moving Raffl and Gust? Just to get them off the books for next year? - Dkos
Both were pending UFA's

Another deadline where the Flyers don’t improve have no fear, Chuckles will fix it all in the summer. - PLindbergh31
Chalk this up to trolling or a basic inability to understand the hockey business in 2021. |

By not being eaten alive by the Sabres. Start with that - PLindbergh31
The stink of that game is still lingering in my living room. That was one of the more frustrating games all season for me and there have been some stinkers. |

Someone mentioned that him playing on the top pair derailed his season. He played 5-6 games with Provy, that had nothing to do with him having a bad season - ClaudeFather
This is a false representation on your part. Get it together.

Was the Detroit/Washington a deadline deal? Or was it a hockey trade where both teams feel they are improving themselves? - PLindbergh31
Kind of a head scratcher, TBH.
WSH paid out the nose in draft picks to swap one underachieving PO no show for another regular no show who's never been in the POs before. If anything, DET got the better end of the deal, getting Panik and the picks in addition.

2-3 years away from being 2-3 years away. That's the teams new motto. - Robert's Plant
People keep using this as if its a fact. Just because a commenter thinks the team is 2-3 years away doesnt mean they are. There is no magic amount of years to become a contender. Its always variable. Depends on the young players development, do they develop fast or slow, injuries then you have to account for your Vets and when will they decline.
Even then being a contender is meaningless. It just means you look like a cup winner on paper. If you get in to the playoffs anything can happen. All you need is to get hot at the right time

Being a contender is not meaningless. You can be in the get in and anything can happen crowd, or you can be in the group of really good teams that are legit contenders. Anything can happen and does like TB losing in the first round. However they bounce back and win it the following year. Being in the latter crowd gives you a lot better chance.

Nice deflection. Losing to BUF has nothing to do with improving through deadline.
Teams that improve at the Deadline are Playoff teams. Everyone else sells UFAs they are not keeping |

So had the Flyers not been embarrassed 6-1 and then followed it up by choking away the game yesterday, it wouldn’t have changed what Fletcher did today? Might want to check the transcript of his press conference. |

I’m not giving up on the kid but he had a very bad season, the team was bad and part of the problem but he was a disaster and need to be much better. Someone mentioned that him playing on the top pair derailed his season. He played 5-6 games with Provy, that had nothing to do with him having a bad season - ClaudeFather
That was one of the dumbest arguments I’ve read....kid is just struggling with his confidence...he has had better play in his past. Hopefully he can put it back together....but his play shouldn’t be blamed on anyone but himself. Blame coaching if you want but his mistakes and poor play are on him. He’s making mistakes that a guy with his experience shouldn’t be making with such regularity. He’s been bad this season and to be any help he’ll have to be better next year. |

Speaking of dumb arguments, stating that Myers with his level of experience shouldn't be making mistakes with regularity. Myers has played 102 NHL games I believe. He is not a highly experienced player. He is still in his infancy of his NHL career. |

That wasnt what you were posting about. You cried that we did nothing to make the team better at the deadline. I know for a fact you'd be crying about buying had we won those games because "we arent contenders"
Flyers did what they could today. Im not sure about keeping Laughton VS trading him given the uncertainty of this years draft but Im happy we got a 5th for Raffl and we got what I figured we would have gotten for Gus.

Moving Gus was adding by subtracting...one of the worst defensive players I've seen...A turn over machine. Raffle was a good soldier and filled the role of a fourth line energy guy. This gives another player to get his minutes. Its the natural order of things...hope he wins a cup with Ovechkin. |

4 years in jr., 2 seasons in the AHL, parts of 3 seasons in the NHL. Is a 24 year old d man with all the tools to be a very good player...100 plus games in the NHL...over 200 professional games.....but he’s not a 19 year old rookie....he’s making mistakes and as the coaching staff has pointed out these are being pointed out to him game in and game out. He shouldn’t be making these same mistakes every game. He is not in his infancy he’s a young player that’s struggling....(frank)ing excuses around here for some of these players are laughable.... it’s the NHL ladies...not some scrub league. The training wheels need to come off. If he continues to struggle then it’s on him...it’s not like he’s learning a new position...he needs to get his poop together if he’s going to play a regular shift on any NHL blue line. |

I honestly don’t remember a worse d man in his own zone then Gus...it’s like he was playing in pick up game with his lack of intensity. |

1) They might still not protect him in expansion,
2) Seattle could have selected him as a pending UFA (they get 1-wk exclusive window to work out a contract w/ pending UFAs),
3) I'm assuming if contract talks didn't go anywhere, Fletch had a deal lined up for Laughts today. - Tomahawk
I think you're right about fletch having a move ready just in case. I couldn't be happier that we signed laughton!
I don't think chuck would have signed him if he didn't intend to retain him... At this point we are looking at losing OL or NP, imo.
I hate this expansion draft coming up I feel it really held some teams back this season because of it.
So seattle may sign any UFA but it's up to the UFA to agree to it? I was honestly hoping for a handshake deal with laughton and let h hot FA but have a deal already lined up after the draft.
I guess in a perfect, non covid world that would have been a solid move by CF
