Where did Fletcher ever say Gus was a replacement for Niskanen? If he was there to replace Niskanen dont you think the deal would have been longer than 1 year? Not to mention that he makes almost half of what Niskanen made
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Common sense...he made the deal very soon after Niskanen retired...there was no other attempt to sign a defenseman. Gus therefore took Niskanens place on the Flyers. Seems that you are splitting hairs. Do you hear from Fletcher on a regular basis...I don't, so I'm left to infer.

So you think he would have played better if he just had been with Sanheim all year? I don’t think so

Who are you guys talking about? I’m seeing a lot of “he” in this conversation.

Laughton deal is fine despite his recent skid. When you can play center or wing plus move in between 2nd and 4th line the Flyers are kinda lucky he didn't ask for more money. Guess the 5 years evens it out.

Couldn't give a rat's a$$ about Raffl. Never cared one way or the other about him.

Doing what you think they will do will mortgage the future. Do you think they're going to be able to get similar age players back in return to make these up grades?
- MJL

Who knows, I mean the Covid market is strange. You will have a good variety of team who will be looking for a change. Only one team wins the cup so 30 will be looking to add the right piece. If Edmonton doesnt take a step forward they will look for change, the Jets. It looks like Dallas needs to reshuffle the deck. Then you will have the Sens of the world trying to get the right mix of youth and vets. The Flyers have the ability to trade talent for talent and add sweeteners.

I hope they finish strong both in the NHL and AHL, with the Patrick's and the Lindblom's, Allison's, Tanner L playing really well. It will open up all the options, then make good hockey trades.

Not true. Gustafsson was signed as a PP point option in case Gostisbehere didn't rebound.
- MJL
Again I disagree. Chuck did nothing else to replace Nisk... AV was forced to move dmen up and down which had the obvious negative effect. Fletcher should (hindsight) have looked for a better option. So which is more criminal...doing nothing, or signing someone that was as bad as Gus was? Gotta pick your poison

Kevin Hayes Laughton JVR and Bobby = roughly what 26 million tied p

How they going to be contenders anytime soon? My bad organic internal growth.

How many goals Laughton have the last15 games or so?

I think it’s unfair to say Chuck should have looked. I’d say it’s safe to assume he certainly tried and just missed. It takes 2 teams to make a trade.

At best he would be on a one year, vet minimum deal as a 13th forward, which would be fine with me. Maybe he still will, but at least we got a draft pick and he gets a chance to play for the cup. Long live Waffles!

Chuck saying he held off from being a buyer after the last few games and realized we should hold onto assets (now) in case we need them for moves in offseason. That will piss some off but it’s the right move

Ding dong, Gus is finally (frank)in gone! This gives Morin absolute certainty to see time the rest of the way.

I think Raffl being traded is long overdue. The loyalty was ridiculous. I’m glad Patrick is still here. I think next season will be more telling than this season after all he’s been through.

Blown away there is zero market for Ghost.

- SuperSchennBros

This. I’m happy about keeping Laughton. Good deal imo and I’m sure if we need to trade him we can. Didn’t want him shipped out for a 7th rounder. There wasn’t a big market out there for what we have. Glad Gus is gone. That was a dumb ufa signing all along.

Myers
- ClaudeFather

Myers is young. This season is his first bad season. Prior to this season, he always played decent but still hasn’t seen a full season.

Unless we’re making room for Seth Jones, there is no reason to give up on Phil Myers based on this season alone. That’s like giving up on Patrick because he had Migraines and Lindblom having cancer. We’ve seen all three guys play better but this year, they’re young and they’ve struggled. All apart of the process. If I’m not mistaken Myers has seen injuries too. He came back to a game that looked like could have been a bad shoulder injury a week ago.

I am really glad we kept laughton but why didn't they wait until the off season so we don't have to protect him in the ED?

Can someone fill me in?

- Bob Habib

1) They might still not protect him in expansion,

2) Seattle could have selected him as a pending UFA (they get 1-wk exclusive window to work out a contract w/ pending UFAs),

3) I'm assuming if contract talks didn't go anywhere, Fletch had a deal lined up for Laughts today.

A GM makes trades...failing too do that leaves you in the position they are now in. Again having no contact with him calls for me to infer...I believe he felt the younger players would move up and that Gus would take the roster spot left open by the Nisk retirement. It was an awful decision leading to a disaster of a season. I do understand why he wasn't aggressive at this trade deadline, but if he goes into next season standing pat it'll be another bad decision

Remember Laughton played very well last playoffs. I expect that if moves can be made to fill the void on d, we might see a better performance next year. I really want a hockey trade to happen to change the core dynamic along with getting that dman.

Now I’m ready to watch the playoffs and I’m sure we’ll see hextall and the penguins parade around with another cup. Should be fun .

Not doing anything about half way through March brought me over to that way of thinking. There’s no point in bringing in help for this team for this year. It was simply to late. Chucky had a very poor year as the GM. To make a trade to compete this year at this point only would have added to his dismal year.

I don’t get the Myers hate tbh. He basically played one full season altogether, and when he was consistently slotted properly ie second pairing with a consistent partner he excelled. He has regressed this year but who hasn’t? I think the team is smart enough not to give up on him, sanheim or provy.
