Sad to see him go, I liked him. He was here for way longer than I realized.

Why? - MJL
Immediate cascading retention seems... iffy.

Cap space is an asset as much as a player or a draft pick is. My issue is that I think teams take on cap space as a 3rd party too cheaply. However, I think that is the good ole boy you scratch my back I'll scratch yours network in play |

Sleepy trade deadline. I think fletcher for the most part is playing the hand he was dealt. Don’t move unless it makes you better long term. The off-season will be the time to reshape.
Next season expectations will be low, individual players will have better seasons. They still need a mojo change, they need speed and a game changer, not sure the 2nd one is out there. So they need an identity because they don’t have one, well they now have one as underachievers. |

Flyers eat half of Gustafsson salary and get a 7th round pick in 2022
So essentially the guy signed by Fletcher is worth nothing. - PLindbergh31
Gustafsson is only sign through the end of this year anyway, right? So what is half the salary really worth. They essentially signed a guy that they didn’t really use. They lost nothing (except money under the cap) and picked up a 7th (which is pretty useless). |

The essential buying of draft picks is a bit unseemly.

it was a contributor. The rest of your comment is false. Put Myers in the right environment, with a supportive team structure and see what happens. - MJL
Except he wasn’t , he was on this team, so he was going to suck regardless |

Probably get a better player in the seventh round. What this says is just how poor a judge of talent Fletcher is...he actually thought that Gus was someone to at least help replace Niskanen. - DANCER
I don't think Fletcher was like "Yeah all the other GMs are dumb, Gus is great and we're gonna sign him" Gus was signed as an emergency body with some NHL experience when Nisky retired out of nowhere. Nothing more.
Don't equate Gus as Nisky's replacement. He cost nothing and was a serviceable body for 1 year, and now he's gone. We got bigger fish to fry on this team than that dude.
As for his eye for talent, I've only seen 1 of his drafts for the Flyers which wasn't bad, so I'll reserve judgement for a bit there. |
