Guy like tanner and the like are supposed to replace the Laughton's of the world.
I don't care who they lose in the ED as it wont have any overall effect on any future success. - login
Maybe , just maybe some of Saint Ronnies draft picks aren’t as good as we were led to believe? Then again we don’t want to rush these guys....4-5 years in the AHL and these guys should be ready to replace guys like Laughton and Vorecek...the math checks out. |

Not really.
Who would you like to see playing his minutes? Laczynksi just got called up, Allison could be too soon but he is coming off multiple injuries and loss of development time so they aren't going to rush him as much as I even like the kid. Frost is hurt.
They will lose a roster player in expansion draft so who would you prefer over him? - J35Bacher
Seems like them rushing to sign Laughts is also an indication of their current level of confidence in NP.
They don't see NP being able to even step into Laughton's shoes within the next 5-years. |

Covid can't be used as an excuse in my opinion. Every team is dealing with the same situation. This is not about Covid. As I said in my post at the very beginning. This is not about blaming Fletcher. As I've said in the past, he was hired with a mandate. The same mandate he likely has now as I can't imagine that Scott is very happy. If they continue to escalate and overreact to this season, I can see that going very badly long term. - MJL
Every team isn't in the same situation. SOme teams were already planning to tear it down and with covid and the flat cap it has now allowed some teams to be brokers to allow other teams to make deals and get picks for doing it.
I am not excusing them but since Covid did happen, people were at different parts of their plans. They have to adjust now.
And you keep referring to this mandate but what has Fletcher done that makes you think he will be making bad deals to please the higher ups?

You don't make a move like the Hayes move if you stick with the master plan. Giroux could easily have played 2C.
With Hayes, they gambled, and lost big time. - PT21
Sure Giroux could've played center but they wanted to keep him at wing. That was the plan along with the doubts concerning Patrick, that created a need at center. So saying they went off of the plan, is not accurate. The plan was to escalate and become more aggressive in building the team to win now instead of remaining patient.

But you don't know this. Adding Ekholm might have slotted the other Dmen in better spots and stabilized what was clearly an unstable defense. Morin has come up and been a good player, Ghost has improved at least offensively. It surely might have been enough!
And how could I foresee Hart melting down as he did in March? Also at the time I thought the forward group was good enough, so if anything I made the mistake of overrating our forward group. - jd250
Yes, I do know this. I look at the team and how it's playing. What it's issues are. It is about far more than adding one player. They were too deep into the funk. Too dysfunctional as a team. The damage was already done. Adding a player in camp before the season started r in the future in camp will have a different effect. When they can practice and drill and get the team in sync. You were hammering for Ekblom well into March.

We were talking about keeping Giroux on at center. There was no justification for not doing that.
If you keep making these roster moves a player at a time and a season at a time without any idea of the long term goal, this is what you end up with.
Now we can enjoy having Couturier and Hayes as your #1-2 down the middle. Talk about being gobsmacked with mediocrity. Clubs will quail at facing us. - PT21
Absolutely there is justification for not doing that. One, Giroux now prefers to play wing and it lessens the wear and tear. He has honestly played too much center this year.

You’re blown away? No one wanted him for free - ClaudeFather
Its not that no one wanted him. No one wanted the Cap hit with term on it with a flat cap for the next few years.

Maybe. I think they will still give Patrick time. Remember Couturier would be no better then 3c in most peoples eyes.
I think Laughton gives you options. He can play where ever in the lineup. He plays PK. He is now cost controlled so you can kind of slot him in many spots if needed. |

What are his shoes though, on the wing or center? I mentioned Patrick as a Laughton replacement earlier as well. I’d like to think there are going to be moves made this off-season, I wouldn’t look to much into this. |

I get the frustrations, I share them with you, but we were the furthest thing away from a sucky team last year. - arichardson22
Great. I love these scenarios.

NHL Radio announcing now. Retaining 50% is irrelevant since he is UFA.

Stay at home agrees with him. Guy doesn't even bother combing his hair.. just rolls out of bed and goes right on live TV.
