I think 98% of Canuck fans would be thrilled to see Benning and his staff gone.👍
- Reubenkincade

Depends on where you look I think. My friends like Benning, a good portion of the posters in here like him as well, and I don't follow any canuck media personalities on Twitter so I'm not quite sure what the consensus is. I just think it's time for change.

I dont think Bowey is in their plans at all. He is a warm body on a dirt cheap coNtract that they can expose to SEA
- CanuckDon

Could very well be. He's a former high pick (Jakes age), on his 3rd team. It's a longshot but he may work out under the right circumstances. If he does, you can expose Myers.

What's wrong with Myers?

Absolutely nothing but it's good fodder for:

Nothing, other than his contract and his age. Myers (in my opinion) is a very serviceable 2nd pairing dman, and a good bottom pairing defenseman. Seattle isn't going to want to take a 32 year old with term at 5 or 6 mill. Exposing him would provide an extra protection slot for a younger player, and if they decided to take him, we would shed a massive contract (I still don't think they would take him in the edraft though).

Aquilini has Bennings ear and Green Bennings confidence. 2 years away...

Not likely he gets selected, but yeah, it means they can protect Myers, oh good!

Aquaman has always had his ear, that is no surprise

I dont disagree with the 2 years away thing either. I just don't like it lol

Absolutely Bowey another good snag by Benning. Fill a gap with a RH shot that we need. I didn't mind Benn but he came pretty much as advertised as my Habs buddies said he would. Way softer than I thought but I was impressed he got his skating in order and leaned up a bit. WPG won't benefit much from having Benn there which is too bad.
- LordHumungous

I was really surprised how soft Benn was. Take away the beard and he was basically Mayson Raymond

he's been put into a role that his salary rather than his play dictates.

put another way, he's overpaid. he's been alright this year which means he's been not great but not bad either. but on a long term deal at $6m, the expectation (well at least my expectation) is that he should be a steady 2nd pairing dman.

sure, he's a 2nd pairing on this dreadful defense but as the corps gets better (which hopefully it does) he will turn into another bad contract on the cap.

and it's funny that LH is saying "absolutely nothing" is wrong with him when all of last season, even he acknowledged the bad play but kept saying "wait for the playoffs." when the playoffs came around, he was injured for 2 games, played horribly for 2 games and played decently for a few games. this is pretty much what we get with him, pretty meh at the best of times at a $6m cap hit.

I’m thinking the exact same... which is too bad because that means the Canucks will protect Myers.
- bloatedmosquito

Ya probably right. Or hopefully they add a D that actually needs to be protected

Benning will have been GM for almost a decade. 20% Of the teams existence.

And stuff.

He’s got great mobility for someone his size but everything else is kind of pedestrian. He’s a veteran NHLer with a low hockey IQ.

He is measurably one of the worst defenders in the NHL. They definitely brought him in just to be able to expose him

That's why he trains with JV, birds of a feather.

I would argue hes a bit better than a 2nd pairing on a dreadful defense, but as he gets older, and our defense gets better, he will slowly start to slide down the lineup and his cap will really suck.

I was kinda baiting there. He's polarizing to say the least.

Our D is in the midst of the biggest makeover it's had in years. I can't see Edler back at 6 mil. So we'll gain space there. The rest of it is pretty much a crapshoot. I didn't see us losing Sbiza last edraft....but we did.

It was between gaunce and sbiza, I wasn't surprised. Sbiza somehow is still finding nhl ice time around the league (sparsely) and gaunce is most likely a career AHLer.

We need a complete D makeover. Edler and Hamonic shouldn't be resigned.

I feel this way about all 3 of our 6 million dollar defensemen, Edler I will give a freebie to though.
Both Myers and Schmidt are overpaid by about 1.5 million and both need to be propped up by their partner.
Unfortunately, we are stuck with both Myers and Schmidt for 3 and 4 more years.

Gaunce is not even an AHLer. He plays in Sweden. Another great first round Canuck draft pick.

Schmidt is just coming into his own. I'm with Lordy, it's still a bit early to judge one way or another with him,
