Market has gone way up after Benning took all his trade chips off the market.

Foligno is better than Boyd and Vesey combined.

I could care less about the rest. 😁

Comparing waiver pick ups with trades revolving 1st round picks isn't quite the same.

I mean they're all in. It's justifiable because they're one of the most talented teams in the league .......but anything short of a cup and they'll regret that trade. Picking late 20's you probably won't see that player on the team for 3+ years.

A late first from a top team isn't much different from a 2nd from a bottom team.

I mean, even without folignos "leadership/intangibles", the team is absolutely on fire right now. If it's between keeping a late 1st and a 4th, or getting foligno, if rather keep the picks.

Excellent haul for cbj, and a nice little move by San Jose as well to eat a bit of salary and gain a 4th.

It's definitely another all-in move for Dubas. I think if you're a player, you love it. But ya, he over paid imo.

I hear what you're saying, but the team is close. (IMO especially with Campbell)

I call it Scotia north syndrome. They probably look better than they are because the division is weak.

However, they've also been a very good team while sharing a division with TB and Boston. All they have to do is come out of the division and they're in the semis. After that, they have as good a chance as any team.

Got to think outside the box a little bit.

Does Toronto make that trade if they aren't forced to play Gally and Barbanov because Benning picking up Vesey and Boyd. Maybe, maybe not.

When Benning picked them up I'm sure the thought of trading for someone gained quite a bit of steam.

Those are the chances you take to win. Nothing is a guarantee. One team wins and the other 5 that do it lose.

Let's take a look at the Leafs objectively. I know it's hard because I hate them too.

Matthews is likely a better player than either of our franchises have ever had. Behind him they have Tavares, Marner, Nylander.

For centre depth they have Kerfoot, Joe, Spezza.

D isn't great but they have a couple of solid players.

Campbell can win the big game on his own.

I'd go for it, might not have a better chance. You don't know how you stack up against teams from other divisions so might as well make a push to get out of your own and not show up light to the final four.

They still have a couple of guys in the minors to look forward to and their core guys are mostly young. Yes, they overpaid but the timing is right to do so. I don't think it's horrible.

Like I said their core is young. It's not like they have to replace these guys anytime soon.

People talked about a devaluation of draft picks all season. Personally, I would have liked to see them get some late round picks back if I was making the trade but that's splitting hairs.

Is it a failure if they lose in the final four? Pretty hard to say that as they haven't won a playoff series in nearly 2 decades. Is it a failure if they're out first round? Absolutely but then they likely have much bigger problems than trading a 1st and 2 4ths.

That's a bold claim. He might end up being, but right now I don't think he'd beat Sundin, Gilmour, Bure, or the Sedins.

I went to CapFriendly to look up stats. The Sedins had 50/55 points each their last season. Sutter hasn't ever had above 40

Sharks receive a 4th round pick for a player who has played 5 games this season.

Toronto didn't want Jimmy Vesey back for a 4th?

Nevermind, that was for taking half of Foligno's $$

Is your desire for mid round draft picks making you lose your mind?

It is causing me to think that Jim Benning is not the genius that some have been talking about all this time.

I wonder what the monetary value of of a (each round) draft pick is. Right now it seems a 4th round pick is worth 25% of a $4ish million dollar player's salary for 20 games.

.25 x 20/56 x .75 x $4,000,000 - is that what players are making 75% of their normal salary this year?

Well I said likely. The kids is 23 and already has 189 goals and 337 points. Sundin is the one to beat IMO.
