He's not getting fired. Ownership and management already knew this season was going to be a step back. Next year they'll rebound back to where they were before this season, then the following season we'll see the team really take the next step forward. The plan is in place, if they fail to bounce back next season then sure his seat will get hot. But the goal next year is likely just to compete for the playoffs, the following season is when it's playoffs or bust.

Covid really threw a wrench into everything and delayed the original plan by a couple of years, it is what it is.

On the first line instead of the 2nd? And pp1? I think he's shown quite a bit of skill and production with limited minutes behind other players. And two big picks. If im detroit fan i came in my pants. Mantha does fit that team very well though.

Larkin, Bertuzzi Zadina are L1 - point is his quality of line mates and more importantly his new TEAM will unearth his true talent in the upcoming seasons. You consider picking between 26-31 and next years will probably be between 53-62 - BIG PICKS? I guess we have different definitions of the term. And I'd call that "premature ejaculation" bud

Yzerman is ridiculously overrated, he'll get exposed in Detroit.

It just seems like freaking out because so many have reached apathy for quite some time. The only player who was likely going to get us anything at the deadline was re-signed a few days ago.

today was never going to materially help this team. that's just the truth of the situation.

the more likely possibility was that JB was going to hurt the team's future further. thankfully he didn't do that.

let's just limp to the end of this season and wait for the house cleaning to begin. if jb survives, it'll be just as fun seeing the apologists turn coat in the next season or two. either way, it's a win/win.

I think there was more movement than most of us thought there would be

Realistically yeah, at least he didn't do any more damage.

Excellent Job by Benning today. Some quality young talent for Utica next season.

he made some fantastic trades today and the past week

Absorbed cap for a 4th
sold extremely high on Mantha and got Vrana, a first and a second round pick
got a mid round pick in return for Merill
got a mid round pick for nemeth

So IN: 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, Vrana, Panik, 4th round pick, 4th round pick, 5th round pick

Out: Mantha, Nemeth, Merill.

hard to knock a guy who just got this haul

Pretty sad isn't it? Is there anyone left who defends Benning? I gave him the benefit of the doubt a lot longer than most but I think I hit my limit when he let Toffoli walk.

Zadina and bertuzzi aren't the long term plan for the first line. Maybe zsdina, not bertuzzi. I like Vranas chances of playing way more minutes on that team. I'll be buying on him in my hockey pools

Solid day by Benning. Got rid of Gaudette, potentially acquired another Tyler Motte, acquired a draft pick in a draft that will be wild. I'll take it.

When will people learn that no one wants our trash? Stop freaking out ffs
