Boston has been poop all year, Hall has the same number of goals this year as Justin Holl! - winsix
Whether hall has been poop this year or not, he's a former 1st overall pick and Hart trophy winner. That return is absolutely embarrassing for Buffalo. |

Bet after the 1st's that have been traded, Buttalo fans must've been pretty confident they'd get one for Hall, too. - GreatGigInTheSky

Is Buffalo just a money laundering operation or something? Is Trump a silent partner? |

Why do they exist...
I like the Foligno deal and would rather have him... But it makes me wonder if I would have preferred Hall if all it cost was a 2nd rounder and some scrub player. 🤔 |

Apparently there wasn’t any retention on Hall.
Edit: never mind. They retained half. |

Two possible explanations:
1. Taylor Hall’s reputation in the leagues is tanked.
2. Taylor Hall used his NMC to dictate 1 or 2 acceptable teams and handcuffed the Sabres. |

I said hed get a 1st if salary was retained.
Plus that's a decent prospect
Edit: they retained salary.
I was wrong.

Rittich got pissed in the media Q & A after we beat them when a reporter asked about trade rumours 🤣 On his way here within the week🤣 I like it👍 Don't watch the flames much but he seems to be competent enough. |

Prior to today, i didnt think hall would get much, i initially said a 3rd.
Then i saw what the leafs gave up for Foligno and thought for sure hall would get a 1st as a result.
A 2nd and pick is a good middle ground i suppose

gsva this season
taylor hall, who sucks and is terrible and is having the worst season of his career: 0.44 wins (0.96 per 82)
nick foligno, hero, legend, gritty veteran who is definitely more valuable than hall: 0.07 wins (0.14 per 82) |

Hall is a better player than Foligno. I think that's not really a surprise.
But we already have a bunch of Taylor Hall-like players. Guys who can skate and pass and shoot who aren't physical and don't really like the dirty areas of the ice. All year a common thing we've collectively said is, "We need another Hyman." Foligno is not as good as Hyman, but he fits the bill on what we mean when we say that. We needed more someones who will get in and get physical and muck and make life unpleasant for the opposition's defense, and on the other side of the red line, they can make life more unpleasant in our D-Zone. |

completely agree.
I am happy leafs added Foligno instead of Hall.
that said, could have addressed that need in a different fashion at lower cost (in an earlier stage during the season or off-season) - plus the idea is for the whole team to play with heart, not just a few (in particular Nylander is off-setting the whole playoff mindset needed).
Rittich - meh. It was either him or Forsberg from Ottawa, so not a lot of choice.
A third seems like quite a high price.
Still need a d-man that is able to play 'big' in a bottom pairing roll at a low caphit -- maybe Hakanpaa from Ducks is an option.
p.s. when I say Dubas is 'low risk' I mean that true risky trades involve giving up roster players for other players -- seems the only thing he likes is giving up first round picks.
as much as Dubas has made some ok/good moves (Campbell, Muzzin, Galchenyuk, Foligno now) he's made some bad decisions as well (Kapanen trade was bad, the Johnsson contract and decision process was awful - giving up players like Trevor Moore, Marchment and others in favor of mediocre players on worse contracts...
Dubas isn't as bad as I have said on here, but there definitely isn't anything to warrant saying 'Dubas best Leafs GM everrrrrrrrr!!!' |

So is the theory that Hall used his NMC to only allow a trade to a few teams, which drove the price down?
Because the Bruins gave up (frank) all.

How on earth is kapanen trade bad? They got a mid first and a good prospect.
Muzzin and Campbell moves were ok? Those were fantastic moves.
Just stop already.
