Their daughter had a number of heart surgeries.

Ah, and she wrote a book about it. That's beautiful.

That might be one of my fave true Wedge stories.

That was more than a story. It was an abomination.

Leafs got a valuable asset. Only paid a first round pick this year.

They already have a difficult time finding spots for their recent picks to get time on the NHL roster so what is another one going to allow them?

- Aaron_85

I'm thinking Elliotte Friedman's speculation that Taylor Hall might not fetch a 1st a few weeks back has really colored a lot of fans expectations of what assets would be worth in this "buyer's market".

The Savard trade is a good gauge of what the landscape is like and I suspect Hall will command a lot more. Will be interesting to see as it will potentially put this Foligno trade in perspective per asset value.

Personally, I'm happy to see Foligno join the Leafs and looking forward to him wearing #71.

Man would he ever be a sweet pick up for the Leafs... be it now or in the off-season.

3 teams at least were offering a first and probably many more were interested. Taylor Hall will be fetching at least a first.

Pension Plan Puppets thread on Foligno trade is a hot mess. Seems like the vast majority of posters there are whelmed, underwhelmed, or actively hostile to this trade.

Methinks there's a bunch of fanboys here (and there) who haaaate the idea that truculence just might be lacking on this team and might be a necessary ingredient for playoff success.

Nothing worse than having to listen to the boomer crowd saying 'I told ya so!' as they extoll the virtues of hard-nosed hockey!

Or this could just be me dreaming up strawmen...

I think everyone applauded when KD said 'we need to fix our compete level' after last year.

Since then he added Bogosian, Simmonds, Thornton, Brodie, Galchenyuk, Nash and Foligno.

Hard to argue with the results thusfar! Nice balance of vets, young guns, skill, and truculence.

Palmieri, Savard and Foligno all went just for picks pretty much. "Prospects" for bodies/salary/contracts or whatever else went too.

Hall will be lucky to get 3 pieces. I would be offering a 2nd, prospect and a roster player.

If we get defensive help, I am thinking it would be more along the lines of

Hamonic
Nesterov
Stone
Morin
Oesterle
Kulikov

With 50 percent retained. Solid deal. Plus he won’t have to quarantine so he can play the second half of the back to back.

Do leafs start him against mtl tomorrow or his own team tuesday?

Leafs get rittich. So Freddy is done? And that means no worries of trying to save space to bring him off ltir. So there is still room for move moves.

I hope we see an oleksiak deal
