There's a rumor that Engvall has scored an NHL goal at some point in his career. Skakes fast? - sure, is tall? - sure, hits? not - much, scores? - no, exists? - sure.
Kerfoot is a better hockey player than Engvall, he can play center, Engvall will not play in the playoffs unless there are injuries IMO
This doesn't mean Joe will play, but even though he is slow, he can still pass and shoot way better than the Giraffe and with this team, all he has to do is either stand in front of the net or dig it out of the corners to set up a team mate. - winsix
Defensively Engvall
Small and sometimes ok - Kerfoot
But I do see Engvall being frustrating to watch some times...seems to lose the puck in his hooves a bit lately.

Assuming they don't dump a forward before tomorrow, come playoff time there's at least one of Simmonds, Thornton, Engvall who don't fit. Just based on experience I can't see it being Simmonds or Thornton. Benching the highly respected gritty vets does not go far with the rest of the team |

I'd guess the top 6 is probably right. I think the Mikky-Eng-Hyman line was too (frank)ing good not to try again. They skated the (frank) out of McDavid a couple of nights.
4th line Simmonds-Kerfoot-Spezza ...with Big Joe and Nash in the mix. - The Law
That's a good point re: the HEM line -- they have a lot of pace and can keep up with the McJesus line and give them fits.
I suppose, depending on the opponent, we'll see Keefe deploy some different looks. |

That link was updated by Capfriendly earlier today. Nash was not on LTI at that point ..may not be yet. Not sure exactly why but basically C.F. said his 2.75 (and now presumably Foligno's 1.375) work as part of the Freddy 5M LTI overage. That would leave them with about 900k if true.
Although they've changed their mind on how this works a couple of times.
(frank)ing Pridham ... - The Law
Here. Capfriendly shows that LTIR room is $7.75 which exactly equals Nash and Freddie’s cap hits. Nash i guess just sits there and Freddie’s gets paid down or something when he comes off injured reserve. According to the Athletic, they’ll have to move $1.45 (Marty M and Hutch to the Taxi Squad or Marlies) when the they activate Freddie
So any moves from here on have to be $ out for $ in |

It's kind of fascinating that Kerf is still on the team. I thought for sure he would be dollars out for dollars in.
Chucky-AM34-Mitch
Foligno-Snake-Willie
Hyman-Kerf-Simmonds
Thornton-Spezza-Engvall/Soup?
Not bad.
Still hope Dubas has something else in order. Backup goalie or depth D-man? - mjones242

I actually wouldn't be surprised if one of Kerfoot or Engvall is swapped for a bottom pairing defenceman before the deadline. Even Engvalls 1.25 million could bring back a decent depth option.
Its not a knock on either guy, they can just live without one of them at this point. |

They're team first vets so they'll be totally fine and it won't be an issue. Thornton is probably the odd man out but they will need all of them if they want to do anything in the playoffs.
In the end I think the vets will just be pumped that the team is loading up for a run, this is pretty much Thornton's last chance at a cup and Simmonds sees it as a great opportunity as well, they're not going to let ego get in the way of that. |

Who know how the lines shake out HEM could be a very important line in the playoffs. Good size, speed and checking, a much-needed shutdown. |

I think the lines will change a lot. I could see starting a game with
Gally AM MM
Foligno JT Willie
Nash Hyman Mik
Simmons Kerfoot Spezza
And then working Foligno into third line somehow getting more shutdown time |

I think Matthews and Marner can see that too.
Thornton was great at the start because he had been playing in Europe so he was in game shape. Then he was off for a bit and everyone caught up.

May be Kerfoot sitting, didn’t Keefe gave the 🦒for the Calder cup win? And he seems to have taken the 3c from him too. |

And Hyman is playing to the level of a first line player on any team right now. That's a matchup for teams if he's driving his own line. |
