Late to the party, but kinda meh on Foligno for that price. Isn't Nash the same kind of 5v5 defensive center? Nash scores at a 4th liner pace too, so I don't know how far up the lineup he's going to be playing.
I hate giving up first. Our prospect pool isn't amazing either. - gravyface
Foligno isn't a center though. |

If he is what the leafs need for the playoffs. I better see it. - senstroll
You wouldn't have wanted to see what the cost would have been for Taylor Hall. |

Credit where it’s due. Dubas did well here.
Now he just needs Holtby. |

If Freddie is healthy, they need to bring about $500K off the cap to spring him from Robidas Island if they want to get h8m into games before the playoffs - Canada Cup
Earlier today Capfriendly put out an update/clarification on the Leafs cap situation. Although they may have updated since then.
Basically the chain of events is this:
With nobody on LTI they called up some schmucks to ram up against the Cap. They then put Freddy on LTI to turn his 5M into LTI space. They then deal for Nash and he's sitting on IR (not LTI). His 2.75 is part of the Freddy 5M LTI space leaving them with 2.25 in LTI space. Foligno will eat up about 1.45 of that leaving them with 800k.
If Freddy's coming back before the playoffs then I'm not sure what the (frank) happens. Nash can go to LTI replacing some of that but after that I'm not sure. |

That can't be correct, they are responsible for 31 days of 1/4 of his salary. |

I think Foligno is an excellent fit for the Leafs.
It was costly.
But it might just be what you guys needed to go deeper in the playoffs. |

How do taxi squads work in the playoffs?
I suspect that the Leafs will not just leave him off the roster. |

apples to apples bobby.
1.45 is that ....measured against Freddy's 5M.
It'd be more confusing to set out the daily cap hit's for both but it's the same net effect. |

So is this how the deal happens...
San Jose trades Noesen to CBJ for Foligno (50% retained)
San Jose Trades Foligno (50% retained) to Toronto for a 4th
Toronto trades a 1st and a 4th to CBJ for Noesen |
