Theo, some day maybe? Right now 4 out of 5 don't make our Cup teams which was my original point.
- rpeters01

Yes, some day when they reach potential. None of them have hit potential. Glimpses of it, though, which is positive.

Well, except Hinostroza. What you see is what you get as he's older and has more years of NHL experience.

To answer your question about where each tops out on a contender:

Suter: 3rd line but can play 2nd without being a defensive liability

Kurashev: ditto Suter

Hagel: ditto Suter and Kurashev

Strome: 2nd line if the wingers are complementary and quicker/more agile

Hinostroza: 4th line but can play 3rd line without being a defensive liability

You didn't ask about these prospects but Reichel and Borgstrom are the only ones in the system who have true top 6 potential.

- Theo Fox

You know, I wouldn't mind seeing a Kurashev-Suter-Hagel line for a few games.

We had high hopes for Panik, Duclair, heck Viktor Stahlberg.

CBJ now has 3 first rounders this year. I wonder if they will try to get more picks by using the cap space created by trading Foligno and Savard? I also wonder why Chicago wasn't involved in either trade. Is Bowman trying to get a third rounder for using their cap space?

Vinnie makes a cup contender in the AHL, have we forgotten what Florida received in exchange for him? He’s not an NHL player on a good team, let alone a cup contender. I love Hagel and what he brings, but on a cup contender he’s on the 4th line, that’s just reality. Maybe he can move up to 3rd line if any injuries occur.

Bowman is deciding that sweetener to through in, DeBrincat or Boqvist.

He had size as well. Viktor only had one problem, he didn't know what his stick was used for.

Speaking of being crafty, why not claim Vatanen off waivers, and then trade him? Is there a rule where you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can trade a player that is claimed off waivers?

I've never liked the point of view about players being this or that on certain teams. Players are a product of the system. Some players determine the system teams use or teams draft and acquire players accordingly. Coaching changes can impact the players utilization if a system should change. Most of the time players can have a varying degree of success depending on where they play. You can look at players such as Eager, Burish, and Stahlberg as players who had an impact on a Stanley Cup team but never amounted to much once they left Chicago.

I was thinking about someone else. You're right, probably wouldn't be much interest or return. Sometimes players like Tyler Johnson are placed on waivers hoping someone will take them due to salary cap concerns, or so they can be moved to the taxi squad or AHL. They are still useful players, but their team can't retain salary, so it's hard to trade them. If such a player were to hit the waiver wire, could they be claimed and traded, or is there a rule against that?

have to look at this way, bread. maybe a team can't take on the full cap hit but say the hawks claim him and retain half his cap hit, they can fit the player.

Detroit was probably used in the three way yesterday because Yzerman and TB's Briesbois are old buddies from their days there.

Maybe Stan, if asked, was holding out for a 3rd or like LA said, he's making himself available to retain bigger bucks for a higher pick.
