And yet 14 teams passed on him.

MB, don't forget that that draft year was insanely deep. As well, CC was considered too small (an assessment I thought was inconsequential given his talent). At the time, as well, the Flyers felt like they needed to bolster their D pipeline. In hindsight, and considering the current state of their D, they were probably correct. When it comes to the Flyers' D this year, D stands for Disaster.

Agreed, my point was that hammering Fletch for passing on a guy that 14 other teams passed on is kind of silly. And I think I read someone here call York "slow". Its not as bad as hammering them for not taking a guy like Pavelski who was picked in the 7th round where every team passed on him multiple times, but its still silly.

SMH.

edited to add: I wanted them to take CC too and was pretty pissed they passed on him twice.

Jones. Would be amazing.

When Myers gets back in, didn’t he and Morin play well together in the A before? Or was that sanhiem, anyone remember?

Wonder if they are trying to trade Patrick for Jones. At this point what does Columbus have too loose. Get something now or loose him for nothing. I forget but I believe Jones has familial ties in Philly. I think I read that somewhere

They have a top D to lose in exchange for a prospect that so far has not proven his worth for his draft position and is more likely to have a ceiling as a 3rd liner in the NHL. Seems lopsided to me.

I honestly don't care that other teams passed on him. I'm sick of the Flyers MO!! They needed to swing for the fences for once and think outside their box. This kid has a personality on top of his skills that this team could use. He wants the puck on his stick with the game on the line and loves the game. Seems to me this is exactly what this team full of play makers could use, but na....let's stay with the same safe narrative that keeps getting them nowhere fast. If Caufield becomes a perennial 40 goal scorer at the NHL level I'm gonna be pissed(who knows at this point)! This kid just seems to have the "it" factor.

Really, why not? Oh, never mind...I forgot he doesn’t fit the makeup of this team. Frederic plays with tenacity, sticks up for his teammates, and plays like he actually gives a sh*t.

I do, because there had to be a reason for it. Otherwise, why would any team pass on a potential 40 goal scorer (seriously doubt it) let alone 14 teams? My guess is because of size and how we would often get bulldozed in his own zone.

Don't get me wrong, I wanted them to pick the guy too, and every time he wasn't picked was a surprise to me. But to scream about something many other teams did as well reeks of hindsight.

I know it is early and both players have yet to get to the NHL but with Caulfield winning the Hobey Baker trophy and getting 2 goals in his AHL debut, did the flyers make a mistake and overlook him to take York. Again I know it is early just throwing out a topic for discussion with Flyers needing a sniper.
-Daceroni

Caufield may turn out to be a good player, but I'm not convinced he will be considered a sniper. Given his size, he uses his speed to make dazzling plays, however as he moves into the NHL, this will be much harder to do. York on the other hand was a good pick, he projects to be a legitimate top 4 Dman, hopefully he will stay healthy and continue to develop.

You would have to add a significant amount with Patrick to get Jones. Sadly a Provorov/Jones is a pipe dream.

The same reason Braydon Point was a 3rd round pick, because of his diminutive size. Obviously its one thing to make dazzling plays in juniors, but its another thing to do it against 6 foot+ players that can skate like the wind and plant you into the 4th row. A lot of teams want players with more size.

To get Jones, you could start with Myers and Patrick, and then add another prospect and/or pick to sweeten the deal.

He’s a nice player...seemed to send a message early on that he wouldn’t back down and plays a really physical game. Has some skill, good skater. I like that kid.
- landros 2

Trent Frederick is a a typical Bruins punk! Morin should plant him into the 4th row right after he plants Marchand!

I noticed this as well. In fact, he also had an assist last night to go along with his 2 goals. I still find it amazing that Chucky passed on this guy TWICE!! I was literally screaming at the TV when Chucky picked York. Let's see, the Flyers obviously don't need a guy like Cole cause they only employ big soft players in their lineup(they don't want a dynamic small guy in their lineup). York better be the next Leetch as advertised or this will be yet another fail by our boy Chucky( Thanks Homer).

- Phillywhiteout

They drafted Bobby Brink instead. He’s just like Caufield, but without the speed and dynamic play. Ok...well, he’s short.

Ya, Brink's skating is going to be an issue for him, I am not expecting much there.

I would package Zamula in instead of Myers...Patrick, Myers, one more A rated prospect and a #1 pick if Jones would sign an extension.. Both Zamula and Myers were unsigned free agents.. Look back to the Pronger deal and other similar deals though Pronger was older. The value of a #1 D who is still young is high

Have to see how this pans out. Remember, York captained the US to gold at the WJC. Doesn't appear that he's a slouch. I don't think he needs to be the next Bobby Orr. If he ends up being a solid top 4 Dman, that's worth more and harder to find than a top 6 forward. As well, Caufiled's game may not translate to the NHL. Who knows.

Well, hope springs eternal. A lot of teams believe that a change of scenery does a player good, and every team believes they can reach a player better than anyone else. Myers is still just 25 years old and a RHD, so I would think since Jones is also a RHD, Columbus would value this. And Patrick still has the cache of the 2nd overall pick in 2017, so play it up for all its worth.

I was thinking that Myers and Ghost would be traded, and Haag would be selected by Seattle in the ED, so going into next season it might look like this:

Provy / York
Ellis, Ekholm or Jones / Sanheim
Morin / Braun
