Well you see, you can spend over the cap as much as the players salaries are that are on LTIR.

He’s expected to play. I’ve seen two pieces describe him as best shut down 4th line C in the league. Freddie has to stay on LTIR till playoffs.

I had thought these two moves in combo were to bring in $ to do big move. Instead, Freddie mostly facilitated this and set stage for more. This became a free add.

You pro-rate the amount of games he has missed with his salary, so if he missed 20 games that would be about 36% of his salary so just under 2 million.

Also they used their accumulated cap space to trade for Nash, now the can put both Nash and Freddy on LTIR and have all that space to use.
