lol better that than 6 Brendan Gaunce's

It's remarkable to me that folks actually think that's the way to build a bottom 6. Look at the past 4-5 cup champs and how the 3-4 lines contribute those guys sure ain't making 975K per...

It's all good and fine to build like the Leafs I guess if that's what people want. Having 6 players that make a total of 6 mil lol. But there's a reason why the Leafs do nothing in the PO's every year...

Sounds like you need a hug from Ovi.

I hope no one runs up the score on them.

I am expecting a few 6-1 scores.

Just heard that the Canucks start off with 5 games in 7 days.
They might start off with a 1-4 record.

Bring in Mike DP and rotate 3 goalies and some other players from the taxi

I’m not quite sure what I said (naively) about the Canucks return to play, but I believe it was 10-14 days after their last reported case. April 7th last reported case, April 16 against the Oil. 9 days. 🤔
- 1970vintage

Not all are sick as others and tested positive at different days.

With 33 players in Van now. Guessing 20 will be healthy by then

I'd rather have 6 Brendan Gaunces than 6 Jay Beagles. 6 mil versus 18 mil

Did you look at the past Stanley Cup Champs? Contenders this year and past Cup winners all have guys on ELCs and 1-1.8 mil contracts that are making/made impacts.

I would think we will see most, if not all the players from the cab company, get in a few games. Unfortunately, that includes Loui.

The team that literally won the cup last year had:
Maroon $900k
Cirelli ELC $728k
Verhaeghe $700k
Coleman $1.8m
Stephens $833k
Goodrow $925k
Rutta $1.3m
Paquette $1.65m

And has replaced guys this season with

Colton $700k
Smith $700k
Joseph $737k

Nobody is saying that the bottom 9 forwards all have to be league minimum deals, but some of them do...[/img]

Yep of course they do...but they all aren't making 975K

6 Brendan Gaunces get you nowhere.

My point was you have to have a balance all the way through. Trying to cheap out in your bottom 6 and expecting huge results isn't realistic.

look at the third and fourth lines of the Penguins, Blackhawks, Kings, Caps, if you think their bottom 6 forwards are making a total of 6 mil or less think again...

Agree.

I’d like to see some of the young guys get more of a look now and would like to see EP back for at least half of the games to close out the “season”

Of course they don't, but 6 Jay Beagles are worse as they tie up way more cap space.

Read Vintage's post above. You need guys making 1 mil who are contributing, both on ELCs and vets, just as Tampa did last year.

Seems like you've been really #influenced by these people who don't want a super expensive bottom 6.

TB also traded a lot for Coleman and Goodrow. Pretty much 3 first round picks were used to get them because of their contracts.

lol no not really but you need balance.

I like Vintsy's post about the Bolts. You have 2-4 players making close to 2 mil and you round it out with the rest...about 10 mil for the bottom 6. Like I said expecting a 6 mil total bottom 6 will get you nowhere. And I agree the ELC and 1 mil guys can contribute for sure...just don't expect all 6 of them to be the big difference in a cup run where 3rd line guys do a lot of the big scoring.

You may not like to admit it...but with Beagle and Sutter out last year we don't get past Minny lol Is what it is.

Of course balance is key, but the Canucks bottom six is not that right now.

Ya, maybe that's true we don't get past Minny without them... however, if you look at it from another angle, if we had players that actually contributed commensurate with what those two are being paid, maybe we make it past Vegas

I agree wholeheartedly with juolevi. It's the benns/hamonics/edlers we need to shake and bring in youth. Mete is very good defensively with a great first pass and good at zone exits. A pairing with Hughes could work.

Hughes - mete
Schmidt - juolevi
Myers - Chatfield

Didn't Montreal say there was no way there were going to trade him? And then they put him on waivers... lol

While I agree the salary for Sutter/Beagle was always in question...it's just very difficult to win without 2-3 of those guys in your bottom 6. I like to look at it from multiple angles was well but expecting us to find 6 Tyler Motte's to round out the bottom 6 again is not realistic. We are at the tail end of a very goofy year and contrary to popular belief here I actually wasn't in favour of the Pearson signing...I just understood why it happened. A trade for Sutter/Pearson would have been nice but not to be. I would really like to see Edler go to WPG for a cup run. Think he deserves a shot and it's time for us to move on from him.

Rebuilding the D around Hughes should take priority now. Regardless of what happens in the bottom 6 forwards lol
