DeSmith could wind up being the big draw in the draft. Obviously we have to compare to what other teams will have available, but a back-up of his level has to be very attractive. - Rinosaur
I can't imagine a backup goalie being attractive in an expansion draft, like.. at all. |

Why? Malkin is a natural center. Why wouldn't McCann just play LW on his line? - burgh4life87

Honestly, I think it would depend on who the starter will be for Seattle and also how much cap space they've already allocated. I mean, if you had asked me in advance of the Vegas expansion draft which Flyers player would be picked, I would have gone way down the list of potential candidates before I said Pierre Edouard Bellemare.
I can definitely see a scenario where a backup like DeSmith is an attractive option at back up goal. |

Backups are easily acquirable via free agency. I would worry about building the full on-ice roster and the starter rather than a goalie that will play backup games, personally, but that's why I'm a GM, because of that line of thinking. |

Well.. every team is going to lose a player right? So, its going to come down to how the rest of the jigsaw puzzle looks.
In the short term, I'm really interested to see what Ron Hextall does in the next couple days. I'm in a really weird spot where I'm congenitally pre-disposed to hope everything Penguins related ends up as a massive tire fire inside of a dumpster fire and yet am still a huge fan of Ron Hextall as a person, player, and GM.
If GMJR were still in charge I would expect him to swing a deal for Granlund among others. With Hextall running the show, I have no idea what he will do considering the number and quality of the trade chips he has to work with and his ingrained resistance to spending those chips. Its probably for the best (for him) that this seems to be a buyer's market.

Backups are easy to find, but not at DeSmith's caliber. Look, I'm not saying that he's more attractive than say Blueger or whatever dman might be exposed, but after the season he's having, depending on all the other skaters available, he might make a lot of sense for Seattle.

No but Lafferty would allow them to protect Namestnikov |

yes, he did. but he did so at a time when there was a glut of goalies and no one was willing to claim him and stash him on their roster for the whole season. |

Yea I think that was last season. Jarry outplayed him and took the backup/tandem role with Murray. |

His stats don't lie and we all know that claiming players on waviers is trickier than just taking a player you want.
I'm just saying it's possible. |

Madden said "he's heard" Kap has a broken bone in his ankle that will heal in a 4 week timeframe. Geno's injury is a knee (which we all knew), but the timeframe is a mystery.
Not earth moving stuff, but just thought I'd pass it along. |

This is TIOPS, so don't shoot the messenger...
They're saying two things:
1) Bozak could be a bargain rental the Pens could go after if he only costs a late round pick. He's a player Burke likes since he knows him.
2) The one rental player Hex and Burke would be aggressive about getting is Foligno and that Foligno has expressed that he'd be willing to go to a contender (cue Fed's joke here). The Pens have checked in on him, but obviously other teams as well including Washington.

His NHL games played went from 50 to 66.
16 games doesn’t suddenly make this guy a top tier backup. |

Their inability to finish doesn’t mean the pens played well. They had a bunch of great chances |
