So as of now when fully healthy:

Jake-Crosby-Rust
McCann-Malkin-Kapanen
Zucker-Blueger-Rodrigues
ZAR-Gudreau-Tanev

Realistically, I like that group of forwards. The big questions are can McCann an Rodrigues continue their level of play when everyone is back. I really like Gudreau to hold a lineup spot since he's been so good on faceoffs. Reminds me of Penguins legend, Mike Zigomanis

Could the Penguins make a move to bring someone in if the price is right? Sure. But I dont see anyone on the market who we could afford who is going to make the difference. I think we are capable of beating all 3 teams in the division. But we are also capable of losing to all 3 teams. Purely depends what Penguins team shows up.

Of the other 3, I''d want Boston the least. I think they match up well against us. I'd still prefer the Islanders despite their good trade for Palmeri and Zajac. Zajac always kills us, so he'd have a bunch of goals against us. Washington is kinda meh for me. They are the same team they've been for years. At this point, I dont think there is anything surprising about them. They are constructed well and play a good game.

Tanev - Blueger - ZAR are going to be listed as the 4th line and played like the 3rd line no matter how many times you guys write up your lineups. It is inevitable

I flagged one of your posts by accident. Glad to see we are clearing some cap room to add Patty Maroon.

The lessons of the Vegas expansion draft are truly being felt this time around. Front offices more prepared and sensitive to how any decision in the next 24 hours can affect their ability to prepare for the Seattle draft. It's been brought up to me, unsolicited, countless times.

Yeah I just don’t get this. Why? If you have to expose someone you wouldn’t have exposed before because you got a better player at the deadline, isn’t that called upgrading? Idk man the GMs of this league are weird.

Yeah, I don't get it either. I mean, I guess in the case of taking on a player with term left, but as far as rentals go you'd be letting them walk anyway by possibly moving a player you would have exposed anyway.

Adds to your acquisition cost. You give up both the assets to aquire a player and the player you have to expose. Poor asset management because you in essence lose something extra in the trade unless you didn't have enough players worth protecting.

I think it's having a bigger effect on defensemen. Everyone wants a strong top 4, but do you want to trade for one and then just lose one in expansion?

And I'll add on from Rino's post I think it makes rentals more attractive.

It would just make the player you’re exposing the rental instead of whoever you actually got. And then you get a ton of free cap space without having to take any money back.

Vatanen on waivers. I don't understand this move. I'd think the Devils can get a decent return for him.

Blueger a game time decision. Honestly, I know if you're ready to go you're ready to go, but with three days off coming I say keep him out.

I saw it listed as postponed on the score. Could just be an error. Didn’t know if anyone heard anything

Edit- on the pens official app it only has 1 philly game listed on the 15th

Mete also on waivers. I don't think the Pens can fit him but wish we could get him.

Ok, take a breath, because you will all want to flame the poop out of me and call me a moron for this. I'm just kinda thinking out loud but... What if the Pens traded Blueger?

I know this is a very small sample size for Freddy and I'M NOT SAYING HE'S AS GOOD AS BLUEGER, but paired along with McCann showing he belongs at center, the Pens wouldn't have to risk losing Blueger for nothing, have a suitable replacement in Freddy and not having to give a major raise to Blueger. I'm sure we're looking at having to pay Blueger a good $2.5M, maybe more.

First step, trade Blueger for Foligno + Pick (4th, maybe 3rd if they're lucky). This makes Hex/Burke happy to get their truculent player.

Jake-Sid-Rust
Foligno-Geno-Kap
Zucker-McCann-Trade
ZAR-Freddy-Tanev

Next, the Pens attempt to pick up a RW for McCann. Personally I'd ty to trade Pettersson or Matheson for a RW.

Again, I'm just thinking out loud and I'm sure I'm missing some kind issue this creates for the expansion draft.

Only makes sense if it's a guy you're willing to dump for just cap space. And I don't agree at all that Zucker is that. This is really no better then one of GMJR's trades where he adds in something extra to get his man from an asset management perspective. You were upset at losing Hallander, a fringe prospect. This is worse.
