I'm not sure what Dallas was thinking in not trading UFA Olesiak. He would have been the guy the Jets could have gotten at the deadline and would not have caused any problems with the Seattle entry draft.

Was Benn one of the players with Covid ? Always a risk he comes in sluggish. Covid takes its toll.

To be the 7th defenceman, sluggish won't matter immediately. Glad we did not trade a 1st or 2nd round pick or any of our perceived elite prospects just for a rental.

I guess its safe to say that you do not have much confidence in this roster going very far this year! I think those that wanted to add really do believe in the roster that has been assembled.

I am disappointed too. I really think we will all look back at this season as a giant missed opportunity. I do not see this team doing this well when we are back in the Central division. Next year, unless we do something miraculous in the offseason, we are going to be fighting for that last wildcard spot if we are lucky!

Benn will help you but don't expect big things. He's more slender now and quicker but plays softer. When he came to Van from the Habs the fans told us what to expect and we are just passing it on lol

You would have been way better off snagging Myers or Edler. They were great in PO's last year when we beat Minny and STL.

I love Tyler Myers! Part of me was hoping that he would be back with the Jets this year. Definitely one of my all time favourite Jets ever.

It's hard not to see TB and Colorado in the Cup finals this year. Vegas, Washington, Boston, Leafs are all major contenders as well.

One must remember that in some previous years those first-round picks traded away might have meant that we would not have a Kyle Connor or Ville Heinola. The entry draft , no-trade clauses, and Covid related issues really handcuffed Chevy this year. Don't think the Oilers didn't want something more on D as well as a few other teams .

Can't afford his contract so he was a non-starter. Edler on the other hand would have been good....but who knows what the Covid situation is with certain players.

i think Heinola and Samberg if ever allowed to play are going to help a lot. i also look forward to Gus and ves being full timers. we will be fine in the central.

The Jets will be a better team next year and an even better team two years out. The future is still very very bright not that I want to look past this year's playoffs.

I do not think it really matter who’s on defense Ross. As long as we keep playing these systems that allow other teams to have an unlimited amount of high danger opportunities we are doomed. That has less to do with personnel and more to with systems.

Furthermore I think its crazy that in the 10 years of watching Jets hockey that we have only ever finished once in the top 10 for penalty killing.

I did not want to see us give up Heinola, Samberg, Perfetti, or Gustavsson....or any 1st round picks for a rental.
Not sure who fans want to see out of our lineup.

When do you suppose these guys will get an opportunity to play? As I see it right now, Beaulieau, Poolman, Forbort and Demelo are all coming back next year. That leave Morrissey and Pionk as our two upper echelon defenseman. Stanley will be hard pressed to get in the line-up because Maurice loves his veterans and there is a good chance that he falls in love with Jordie Ben as well. That will mean that Heinola and Samberg barring major injuries will spend the entire next season with the Moose as well.

Jets have three more years of Hellebyuck at a reasonable cap hit. He’s playing lights out at the moment and from my perspective is THE BEST goalie in the NHL. Scheifele, Wheeler and Hellebyuck all have three years left after this year in their contracts. I have watched both Montreal and NYR squander great goaltenders in their primes careers. I wished the Jets would have added a really good right sided defenseman to really take us over the top.

That's the thing. Bring someone in, someone comes out and the D have been playing pretty decent lately. My hope is that Benn is just injury replacement.

Hopefully Poolman continues his improved play, that will be a bonus.

I also didn't want to trade our top prospects and 1st rounder away - unless of course you were getting a horse like Ekholm which might have been tempted to include one prospect, and a 2nd, but not Heinola.

Anyways going forward, our D for next year looks good ,with JoMo, Pionk, Stanley, Heinola and Samberg to start with. Throw in a vet or two and we're in good shape. If DeMelo doesn't get claimed by Seattle, we got six d-men going to 2021/22. Be nice to re-sign Poolman.

The TSN trade panel is not giving the Jets high praise. Jeff O’Neil really seemed disappointed with what the Jets did. Called Jordie Benn a “secondary” move.

I really don't care what the suits on TSN say before they get the actual facts.

Chevy took some big swings to get the right guys. The bottom line is some would not waive or the other teams took another deal or chose to pass. At least we know he tried. There were limited assets that worked this year for reasons I stated earlier. It is what it is. Every player wants to go to the Leafs so Dubas has a much easier job.

The Leafs are doing one thing right and that is putting all their 30 plus year old guys in support positions. Looking at the Leafs third line, they have both Spezza and Thornton there. In Jets land they would be on the first line. Both Stastny and Wheeler should be on the third line or lower. The only player that the Leafs got of any significance is Foligno and he’s 30 plus too.

The only thing I will give Chevy a pass on this year is Covid. I think lots of deals may have been nixed due to the Covid-19 situation more than anything else. Jeff O’Neil stated that Chevy should have beaten TBay to the punch for Savard.

The TSN guys made a great point about 1st rounders though. Saying that none of them that are drafted this year are not going to play for at least 4 years from now.

Dallas is still in the playoff hunt, I didn't think they'd sell, might resign Oleksiak as well.

I'm not sure if Benn had Covid or not, there were better dmen traded for a similar cost or slightly more, should've traded for Fleury!

I'm usually very against trading 1sts for rentals but I would've been fine with the Jets making the Savard trade.

The 1st is the only piece of real value and who knows what this draft will produce and 3rd and 4th rounders are long shots to make it.

Perhaps a bigger point is that the 2021 draft class will be much much harder to evaluate because of both Covid, lack of games, scouts' ability to travel, etc. So a mid-first-round pick might not be much different than an early second-round pick.

Yes, this crop and likely the 2022 crop will likely take a lot longer to develop as well. However, those timelines fit nicely into when the Jets might start to rebuild.

Just in case he does come back. I would think that Chevy would have a pretty good idea before he would make this deal.

One must also consider that when LTIR takes a team over the cap, any overage from bonuses must be carried over to next season's cap.

While on the subject of performance bonuses. It's likely a good reason why Ves didn't play many NHL games this year, not that he's doing anything great with the Moose anyways. Ves is a very tradable asset right now.

So if Little could return next season Chevy should dump him to Seattle?
What an incredibly big A-hole move that'd be!
A good news story, rallying point for the team and Little would have the Masterson trophy wrapped up before the opening game puck drop but Chevy's gonna trade him away, gawd I hope not!

Highly unlikely Little is returning but if he does you find a spot for him and play him, period.

The Jets passive penalty kill is a terrible strategy, I'm not surprised it's only been top 10 once in 10 years.

That was a fight that Logan Stanley can’t accept. Jets had a two nothing lead, Stanley was in their heads for his physical play, Ottawa was doubting if they could compete with the Jets. The nonevent fight was the turning point in the game. 2-0 and early in the game = really bad timing
