I will also make a bold prediction here. The Calgary Flames will be playing the Leafs in round 1 of the playoffs. The Habs will not make the playoffs.
- jetsnation

The Jets played a great game last night - or the Habs were disinterested for whatever reason? Let's go with the former!

Perhaps best game Poolman has ever played? Now if he can stay healthy!

IF the Jets add a veteran d-man at the deadline, who comes out? Or will it perhaps only be a depth d-man in case of injury?

Sure...some bragging rights.

I have several reasons for my prediction. The schedule is the biggest reason. Flames play the Habs 5 more times, and then mostly easier competition. Habs play Leafs five times in addition to the Flames, and the Oilers a couple of times. Habs also have some big injuries they are dealing with heading into their big series with the Flames and have some momentum going.

Still, sticking with your prediction?

When you ask “who comes out”, the options are literally everyone but DeMelo and Pionk.

If the Jets are unable to get a quality defenseman, they should just go out and get Taylor Hall. Might as well go out and try and outscore the opposition.

Another intriguing name out there right now is Ryan Getzlaf. The guy still has sick mitts and could be had for relatively cheap. He’s also from Saskatchewan, which in my books is a bonus as he understands Prairie culture.

I think he would make for an interesting addition for the playoff run and he would be the exact type of veteran player that Maurice would fall in-love with. Trade suggestion:

To ANH: Columbus 2022 third round pick, Winnipeg 2021 third round pick

To WPG: Ryan Getzlaf

To the earlier prediction CAL gets the 4th seed over MTL... Hope your right but very unlikely IMO.
I think the jets have the best 12 forwards in the north and maybe the NHL. I cant for the life of me understand why this thread is so reluctant to trade 1 or 2 of (Perfetti, Heinola, Sanberg, 2021 1st) to bring in the Dman you need to increase your odds.
Take the dang swing!

I am with you DEDDIE, this is the best opportunity this franchise is ever going to have to win it all. This is that time when you are sitting at the poker table and go all-in on a sure bet.

There are lots of sceptics on this board that claim to be big time Chevy supporters and for some reason they are constantly afraid that he is going to lose this deadline deal. I have been critical of Chevy lots in the past and I find it funny that I seem to have more confidence in him these days than the majority of the fan base.

Should have pulled the trigger on Ekholm a few weeks ago when he was available.
A player like that could be the difference for the Jets.
Also Hellebuyck is the best goalie in the league today....what more can a fan ask!

Because a lot of those players (Heinola, Perfetti) could be higher caliber than Ekholm in the next year or two, and because this team isn’t close enough to contention to make the risk worth it

That is a very bold prediction - statistically they have less than 1% chance of making the show. They have to just about run the schedule and hope for habs, oil, or Jets to collapse.

I realize that it is the schedule you are basing your opinion on.

But there is no guarantee the Flames will beat the Habs. Even if they win three out of the five games, they gain two points.

As we speak, the Habs are six points up (I believe) on the Flames with three games in hand. Making up those points are not going to be easy.

Even the games against the Leafs, there is a good chance that the Habs pick up a few wins. In fact, they will.

Yes, the Habs are banged up a bit right now, with Gallagher and Price the big ones. I'm thinking Price will return shortly, but even without him, I smell playoffs for the Habs. The Flames don't exactly have George Vezina in net either.

So yes, the Flames have the easier schedule on paper than the Habs, but they will booking tee times for about May 12. Trust me!

He's not an upgrade for the Jets and counts 2 million against the cap... thats why he's on waivers.

Edler/Myers would look so good in a Jets uni for a deep PO run...

Edler won’t go anywhere, and Myers would struggle with the Moose.

Maybe not an upgrade as such - but you can never have too many d-men in the playoffs. Depth! Cap hit is not a problem. And UFA.

Perfetti and Heinola are untouchable and it would be absolutely stupid to trade either one of them to take a run at a Cup that TB has likely already won due to taking advantage of really dumb no-cap rules for the playoffs.

I knew the games in hand were a major factor which is why I classified it as a "bold " prediction. I know the odds would be well against me on this prediction. That being said my batting average on predictions on this board has been extremely high over the years.

Surprised the Leafs haven't found a way to bring in Seth Jones and Taylor Hall. But the deadline's not until tomorrow, is it?

Nice of old friend, Steve Yzerman, to help the Savard deal along, wasn't it?

Thinking your batting average just dropped.

Better get some more work in the cage! lol

Some of my predictions, going forward:
1. Jets playoff bound (hello) but don't win Lord Stanley
2. Paul Stastny re-signs for 1/2 more years; Perreault also returns at lower price tag
3. Adam Lowry and Tucker Poolman walk - Adam to Calgary?, Tucker to the Wild?
4. Two new coaches in Jet land this coming fall
5. Jets protect JoMo, Pionk and Stanley on D at Expansion Draft
6. If not protected, Jansen Harkins is Jet chosen by Seattle
7. Sami Niku is dealt; Copp hefty raise
8. Cole Perfetti spends at least one more year with the Moose
9. K. Vesalainen and D. Gustafsson are Jets next season (if not dealt)
10. 90% of these predictions are wrong!!!

The one’s I bolded, are the one’s I hope you are wrong on.

Jets will win the cup this year, despite giving up the second most high danger shots against. This is due to a poor system implemented by our coach. I am surprised that no one is mentioning that Hellebyuck is now leading the league in goals saved above expectation.

Stastny is great, however is 35 years old. Playing him for one-two additional years means that guys like Harkins, Perfetti, and Vesalainen do not get shots with the big club. As for Perreault, this year is fools gold, do you honestly see him putting up the same production against the central division?

Otherwise, the rest I hope all happen!

I hope I'm wrong on #1 as well, I'd get down on the street and crawl down Portage Ave on my hands and knees if they could win The Cup - and I got a bad knee (at times).

On Stastny, 35 but lots of hockey left - and smarts m- left in him. I don't see Perfetti being ready next season, although, to be honest, haven't seen much of him (little).

I know Paul is on the wing, but he's right there should Scheif or PLD go down. He's very valuable to the youngsters on the team in their learning curve. A pro's pro!

See the Leafs just got Foligno - and got others to pay most of his $$$. They need to adjust the rules ASAP!

Ek is saying the Jets get Goligoski (if not Manson). Good move if the price is right!
