I think its an aberration that Rooney and Blackwell have been so effective

this is the time you trade guys like that IMO

- jimbro83

I don't know. Could it be a one time thing, I guess, but they both play hard are defensively responsible. Blackwell looks like a guy who could bounce up and down if there are injuries. They both seem like perfect 4th liners. I'm not against moving both, but for Blackwell it better be good. They are perfect cheap players who make a good 4th line

I'm still sore over the Devils 4th line killing us in the playoffs. Ive wanted a competent 4th line since then.

I'm not terrified, I think its dumb to trade them when we finally have a decent 4th line, unless its an incredible offer.

And the whole "we could develop one", we haven't had a competent 4th line since Torts.

- mdw7413

To be fair, we haven't had the proper players to build one though. When the cupboard is full, gives the org a bit more flexibility.

Rooney should stay though. We need to solidify the middle of the ice and Rooney helps in that regard. PK is great too.

That goes back to my point of it not being that easy and just throwing players at the 4th line.

#NYR Eichel offer

1. NYR 1st round pick 2021
2. NYR 1st round pick 2022 (lot protected)
3. Chytil
4. Buchnevich
5. Georgiev
6. Robertson

This is going to be final guess based off what I heard from source and my own opinion on current value of players.

Yep. I like what they bring, too. And, Blackwell is playing like someone you want to keep. But, as $700,000 FA signings, they have to be moved for the picks and/or prospects they would bring back right now.
And, I don't give a (frank) what he has done before now... if a playoff team comes calling for Scorewell, I want a 3rd round pick. Non-negotiable. And only because the idea of getting a 2nd is pretty crazy, but I'd try!

Don’t think I’d give bullets 1-3 at this point, let alone 1-6. His value may be at an all time low right now, and if the Rangers trade for him the return better be reflective.

I’d hold firm on a 2nd. Any other player with his stats and impact would retrieve a 2nd, he just won’t because he’s never been a highly touted player. I think the fact that he’s signed for so cheap through next year adds that much value to a cap ceiling team that it’s possible. Otherwise, I want a legit bottom 6 center prospect. That might even be my first ask, honestly.

I can't wait for the deadline, if for no other reason than to be done with all this Eichel talk. I know I've made my opinion quite clear. But, I wouldn't want him even if you removed lines 1 & 2 from that package. IMO, his personality detracts from what we have built to date. We're not some team in dire need, desperate to make a single playoff push to stave off bankruptcy or a move to a new location. We have build 90% of what it takes to be a perennial contender with an outside shot at a dynasty!!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to take my Kool-aid and get some work done.

deadline isn't going to end the Eichel talk

That's where our opinions differ. I don't think taking a good, solid look at the players already inhouse and finding a replacement for Blackwell is just throwing players at the fourth line. Also, most of Blackwell's success has come while he's playing up the roster. That spot needs to be opened up for Kakko/Kravs.

And the caveat to this whole debate is that I'm not trading Blackwell for anything less than a 3rd (approaching a 2nd with his recent play).

I'm not completely opposed to the idea if the asking price has bottomed out. He could end up being a steal if he leaves Buffalo.

and what happens is similar to what happened with Jesper Fast all the time

Blackwell is always going to work his but off, so the temptation to move him up in the lineup is always there if the kids are struggling

everybody wants to develop the kids and let them play

after the season, if his health checks out, I could get into Eichel for the right price

6 assets though no way

I only traded 3 assets for Mark Messier

Completely agree.

I think most of us should be onboard with Eichel if they don't need to empty the cupboard to do it. Rick Nash acquisition was exciting enough, this is a young Center going through some growing pains and the frustration of playing in Buffalo. He projects as a potential top 5 at his position. You don't often have a chance to acquire this type of player.

That being said I am all for Barkov over Eichel, but that sounds even more improbable.

I'm willing to trade a first rounder and Georgiev and then two prime assets at most

whether that's Chytil and one of the defenseman prospects, something like that
no more than 4 assets

But I gotta know that he's 100% healthy and no lingering issues

I am no longer sure I want Eichel because of his neck injury and I don't know its severity. However, if its not a serious long term health problem --- how is this insane?

1. First round pick this year
Rangers have had the most 1st round picks in league the last 3 drafts

2. First round pick next year
With Eichel, we shouldnt have to worry about lottery protection --- pick should be in the 20's

3. Eichel replaces Chytil

4. Buch best player being traded away in the deal. Alleviates our log jam at wing

5. Georgiev is a quality back up, but not a deal breaker

6. Robertson is a good player but not a top 3 defense prospect

We get the best player in the deal ( assuming he is healthy ). I would do this deal if Rangers really want Eichel! It seems excessive at first glance because it is 6 for 1 but upon further inspection, its 6 dimes for a dollar!

Oh yeah, no doubt I do Chytil, a d prospect, a first, and a throw in like Georgiev. Does the $ work in that type of deal?

Zac Jones looked outstanding last night. Granted it's against college players, but he was EASILY the best player on the ice. From a skill perspective and IQ. Adam Fox lite is a good call, though his defensive game isn't as good as Fox. He could be a killer third pair guy for us.
