It is ridiculous how confusing it is.

Someone called me this morning to say they knew someone (over 55) who went on the Walmart site and were able to choose a location out of town for them. Got an appointment the next day.

I tried it, got an appointment in North Brampton and then someone said Cambridge had opened up some slots. So I get the AZ tomorrow in Cambridge.

Unfortunately, I am supposed to see some friends, outside, on Saturday but there is every chance I will feel like crap apparently.

No one died during the trial.

the UK variant is much more common here and in the U.S.

Also, as people get vaccinated the idea is that the burden of all variants is reduced.
Also, I imagine some restrictions are going to be in place probably past this year.
Also, Boosters are already being worked on. Late this year or early next year there will be booster vaccines.

As burden drops in the coming years, the opportunity for viable and somehow more dangerous variants decreases drastically.

It will take some time, but this disease will become endemic but under control at some point.

Fact is that the SA gov't stopped with the AZ vaccine was found to be not very effective in protecting against mild and moderate disease against that particular dominant strain. Therefore the vaccine sis not meet minimum requirements for emergency use in that setting (geography).

So that doctor told you not to take the AZ vaccine, or you thought you knew better than him anyways?

I don't think it was pitched to us as much as which one is best as much as it was everyone be informed and make the decision they feel is right for them and their family.

With that in mind my wife and I are going to get the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

Only thing I want to say though is that - if you're so keen on taking an mRNA vaccine - you might want to go for the curevac vaccine currently in phase III. Before covid, curevac was considered as pioneer company in this field, and in my opinion have been way more prudent with their covid development plans.

By the way - do you actually get to chose a vaccine in Canada? Or you're assuming that by the time you're up, there are so many doses 'left' so people will be able ro chose // able to buy themselves private channels?

Can only have AZ if your 55+ in my province. Pfizer, Moderna and J&J are the only other ones currently approved. So odds are I'm going get what I want. But if not, I just plain don't get the vaccination offered. 🤷🏻‍♂️

AZ has stated they will not take profits from the vaccine while the pandemic is on. The fact is there will be huge money to be made after the pandemic on just annual boosters like the flu shot. Sadly, that is what their bungling is all about. In the end, Janssen and Novavax are wringing their hands in happiness at AZ stupidity.

Having said all that, for now, I believe it is protective enough and timely enough for my purposes


My wife and I have agreed that even when we are both vaccinated we wont be doing much in Florida except spending time with my family. I wont be ready for crowds and/or large indoor gatherings for a while. Hopefully by this time next year it has simmered down significantly.
