In my case, I live in the Boston area but growing up Clarke was my favorite player and I never stopped loving the Flyers since then. That is what being a fan is all about, sticking with the team through bad times, because then it makes the good times all that much better. When you do this, as a fan you feel part of the success of the team, even though you had pretty much nothing to do with it. - jd250
I grew up outside of Philly in the suburbs. As a young teenager back in the cup years, I sent Clarke a letter. A week or two later I rcvd an autographed photo in the mail. I still have it hanging on my workshop wall.

I for one don't find this amusing at all. I may argue with him, but I like the real MJL a lot and don't like to see him made fun of this way. If you have a problem with him, stand up as yourself and make the argument, but this is just childish! - jd250

MJL is correct, Morin is a UFA, as stated here:
Group 6 UFA
A player becomes a Group 6 UFA if they are 25, completed 3 or more professional seasons, has a contract expiring, and has played less than 80 NHL Games. For goalies, this is 28 NHL games with more than 30 minutes of ice time.
A Professional Season is defined as any season where a player aged 18-19 plays in 11 or more Professional Games, and a player 20 or older plays 1 or more Professional Games. A Professional Game is a regular season or playoff game in the NHL, minor league (AHL/ECHL), or European professional while under an NHL contract.

Agree with all of this. But I will be shocked if Fletcher is a buyer or a seller. He seems like he only looks for bargains (and the gets criticized by the fan base if they think he has overpaid for something: Kevin Hayes). - section32

To start though I love Giroux, its time he just play hockey and give the 'C' to Couts. - jd250
Unless Giroux comes to you and asks you to relieve him of the 'C', switching it seems alienating and purely cosmetic.

As much as they drive me crazy more often times than not, I've been a fan since I could crawl and will remain so for as long as I live! Just once before I die, I want to see them raise the Cup. All I heard were the stories from my parents and my grandfather (he was friends with Orest Kindrachuk) before he passed about how amazing it was when it happened in '74 and '75. So close several times in the 80's and once in the 90's, then 2004 and 2010, but not much since. - aantny88

Been a fan since the '72-'73 season and was 9 and 10 when they won the Cup. Such a great time for young Scoob. |

It is mostly symbolic, that's true. But its symbolic that things are changing and that is a powerful thing. No one will ask Giroux to stop leading by example as he has continued to do since he has been here. The message to Giroux should be, we want to win with you and for you to be a big part of what we are doing still, but we also want to signal to the rest of the locker room that things are changing.

I have been a fan of the Flyers since they beat the crap of the Red Army team in 1976, and the Flyers haven't won since .. wait .. really? Ohhhh

Why? He has done well since he has been playing for the Flyers, I would like to keep him. He has good size and reach, skates well and plays with a nice edge to his game. The Flyers need more players like him.

No issue with Sam in any way; just be funny is all. Though in his case I think his loyalty may come in to play.
Flyers pretty much gave him over 2 million to do nothing. Maybe he doesn't forget that. |

Imagine watching the last game and thinking Voracek and G were the problem. Literally the only players consistently getting it going were G, Voracek, TK, and Ghost. Every shift felt like something could happen. |

And therein lies the fatal flaw of this franchise. Ride with mediocrity because starting anew is never an option.
Sad to admit but I’m totally content with the fact that I can’t wait to start rooting for a different franchise next year after 25+ years of Flyers fandom. This is a circus. - hereticpride
I like a good number of your posts, and absolutely love your avatar, but we certainly disagree on the definition of being a fan.
I look at it as like a marriage. I'm mid-50's and been with the Flyers for 48 years and with my wife for 32. I can say bad things about them, but you had better not. I am loyal and faithful, but I can still be critical of the things done that I do not like. I will not leave, but I might not give full attention for a short period. Even during bad times, I will stand alongside, and when things are great, there is no better feeling.
I understand the frustration with the last decade (46 years), but I believe there will be a payoff, and this frustration is an investment in the pure bliss when the Flyers win Me again. I know you don't want to miss that...
Some might call me a Kool Aid (Orange) drinker for that, but there are also Black Kool Aid drinkers out there that go so much further to the other extreme, that I believe they are either sadists or Rangers/Penguins/Devils fans who hate the Flyers as much as I love them.

then don't make it symbolic. trade him and then things WILL be changing instead of symbolically changing. Or just leave him at C and let the locker room work itself out.
it was interesting hearing Shayne Corson on Spittin' Chiclets this week talk about the captaincy of the Blues with a team that had Hull, Gretzky and Keenan as coach. Who had the C seemed to have zero influence on that locker room.

Any chance we can attach a high draft pick to Voracek, and trade him? This draft isn't that good or deep this year, to my knowledge. I would like to get a defensemen as well, but at least moving that bloated contract of Voracek's, would be a good starting point. |

2006 draft Flyers had 3 second round picks. Nodl, Ratchuk, Bodrov. They passed over Brad Marchand 3 times. How do you rate that? - PLindbergh31

Morin is a UFA. He does not need to be protected.
Why wouldn't Seattle take a chance on Patrick or Lindblom? I would. I would also consider a UFA offer to Morin. - MJL
I would offer Morin the league minimum or a million. Even if he came back next season and sucked, it wouldn’t hurt to have him as a 6th/7th defender. Right now I really like what I see. |

As I mentioned before I’ll be back once there is a different version of this team iced. I’ve just had more than enough of the thinking that a core of G, Jake, Coots and JVR is good enough. In the meantime I’m going to watch fun teams. I just can’t with the way this roster is constructed anymore. |
