Lol I’ve been here for over a decade rooting for this team through good and bad. This isn’t some rash decision after a bad loss.
Fwiw, I started rooting for the Flyers when I moved here in 95. Probably should’ve been rooting for the Red Wings based on your mature reaction.
I’ll root for Edmonton or Colorado. Maybe Seattle once I see a roster. I want to watch exciting players and exciting hockey instead of year 11 of the definition of insanity on ice. Sue me. - hereticpride

Disagree. More than anything the Flyers need to add some player movement and quicker puck movement to the PP. They need to change angles of attack. Force the PKers to move. Those players if still along with more talent around them can still be effective on the PP. - MJL
I don't disagree with you, but can you really teach old dogs new tricks? A lot of what makes a PP successful in this league is the individual talent you put on the ice and their instincts to make the right plays. Has this veteran core ever demonstrated that consistently? By the numbers you would have to answer no, because the Flyers over the past several years have been barely average at best, and barely average does not win you games that matter the most.

That isn't how it works in sports. You root for the team in where you grew up or where you live. So if you live in Flyers country, that's your team. Through thick or thin. What are you going to do, root for the team who wears your favorite color? I will never stop being a Flyers fan. - MJL
In my case, I live in the Boston area but growing up Clarke was my favorite player and I never stopped loving the Flyers since then. That is what being a fan is all about, sticking with the team through bad times, because then it makes the good times all that much better. When you do this, as a fan you feel part of the success of the team, even though you had pretty much nothing to do with it.

An asterisk for what? Sorry, no asterisk for Pittsburgh. Give them credit for doing whatever was necessary to win. There is no moral high ground in sports. - StepfordSam
An asterisk for the fact that it was not a model for building that is viable for other franchises. It was unique to the early/mid 2000s and unique to the Penguins |

It's not just a few tweaks that gets this fixed. It's more than just tweaking the roster. This team needs to slot players better. They need a full training camp and significant practice time to sort out and fix the systems issues. The teams lack of attention to detail and team defensive play is the reason for the young players regression in my opinion. The catch 22 is that they're also part of it. It just hasn't been a strong environment this season for the young players as a whole to progress. The Flyers have too many danglers in the forward ranks. Guys that like to hold onto the puck and try and make plays. Need more guys who drive the net and jump into shooting lanes and then shooting the puck. They need a RH shot defenseman to play with Provorov. Really can't overreact to this season and approach it as needing wholesale changes. That would be a mistake. - MJL
Echoing fletcher with its not the right mix. Or similar. I’m saying we have too many puck carriers or similar style of players how does training camp fix that? Where you lost me. |

I don't think the Canes (#1 ranked PP) are fielding that much more talent than the Flyers are on the PP.
As Darth Vader said, the Flyers are too static. They try to do everything w/ quick puck movement instead of actually moving their feet. Gotta combine both to break the box. |

Flyers do not have a player in the top 45 in scoring. Just checking, is that good? - PLindbergh31
I just checked and this is what I found for highest scoring Flyer players:
2020-2021 - JVR #49
2019-2020 - Travis Konecny #32
2018-2019 - Claude Giroux #19
2017-2018 - Claude Giroux #2
2016-2017 - Jake Voracek #39
So for the past five season this team has had only X1X EDIT (2) players in the top 20 in scoring. This is a significant statistic! |

I count 2 times (not 1) but you're from the Boston area. Math is hard.
I agree that this is a telling stat. We have been missing that pure goal scorer that G and Jake can keep feeding. |

Of course the Canes are rolling out better players: Aho (top 20), Svechnikov (top 30), Trocheck, Hamilton (top 20 defensive scoring) .. these are really good offensive players that have strong chemistry and a good approach. I just posted the top Flyers' scorers over the past 5 seasons, its not even close.

not as important as you're making it out to be. the blues only had 1 player in the top 50 the year they won the cup. wasn't in the top 20 either. |

Sometimes it's not as much about the return as it is clearing cap space. |

Yes, but that is an outlier, not the norm. And don't forget they had a really hot goalie that year, and historically a hot goalie can win a cup all by himself, see the 1993 Canadiens for an example.

Not good, and certainly not impactful!
2019: Christ Stewart, Prosser, Andreoff, Welinski, Berube, Kriscuolo, Gabriel
2020: Gustafsson, Pouliot
then again he has not had a ton of cap space to work with given he has to sign his younger players. |

Sure he's had two years of signing absolute slugs, but he is a loyal guy. He signed two of his friends he enjoyed all that success in Minnesota with. |

A big part of a GM's job is creating cap space. |

So far he has made very minor signings that were more about building depth on the Phantoms than anything else. I am willing to see what he does this off season. If he doesn't move the needle substantially forward I will be calling for him to be fired. We need a smart, but aggressive GM that is going to move this barge forward! |
