Yeah, got to feel for the guys who have young children. The last thing you want to do is put them at risk because you got infected at work.
From a hockey/fan perspective, at least with a poop team a fan can look forward to TDL excitement and the prospect of collecting multiple draft picks. But can’t even look forward to that. Talk about a lost season.

Frankly, Oleksiak is exactly what this team needs. Big, skates well, and is tough to play against.
Would love Taylor Hall in the top 6, but in terms of impact I think Oleksiak might be the best fit for this squad. - mjones242
I like him too but what do we use his $2M for, to replace Dermott’s 10-12 minutes a night? I’m not opposed to it in principle but with very few resources, I’m not sure that’s the best use.
Overall, the team looks pretty good right now but I’d go for an upgrade to the top 6 or the 3rd line. If you do the 3rd line, you might be able to afford a cheap D-man kind of as a Marincin buffer |

anyone know without looking it up where the Jays got Julian Merryweather?

He was the to be named later in the Donaldson deal that we all said was a terrible return. I have quietly offered apologies to Shatkins a number of times. They've done a good job. |

We have a pickup scheduled for tonight at 6:30 (it's Lowe's, but it's basically Rona), which was our earliest spot available -- and we scheduled that on Monday. - Monkeypunk
Lowe’s was selling all of their snowblowers at half price last month. We were in to buy some stuff and I noticed 5 snowblowers out front when we went in, 15 minutes later they were all sold. There were more inside, including a big boy machine. I hummed and hawed at home for an hour and decided to go back to purchase this beast. On the way, I see a guy walking behind his new snowblower. Manager tells me rather than paying $70 for delivery, dude brought in some gas, started it up and walked her home. Guy lived almost 2km away, lol.
As I was enquiring about my potential purchase, lady motions for me to turn around - some dude had his hands on the grips, with another couple waiting behind him. I blurt out, “I’ll take it!!! Put a sold sign on it!!” Some random lady gives me a big thumbs up and says she’s purchased the one behind mine. I’m like WTF is happening here? Why am I behaving like this? It’s a franking snow blower, I never get caught up in the hype. Manager comes over, same guy who told me about dude walking his home, and he asks, “Do you live in town? Yep. “You want delivery, or are you gonna ride this baby home?” Lol. |

I'd have to say that the addition of Oleksiak would be good.
Oleksiak stepped up and played on the top pairing last year in the playoffs (albeit with Heiskanen, who's not all that shabby) and was very effective. He can fit in anywhere we need him. He could theoretically bump Holl - but that would be unlikely. Replacing Dermott with Oleksiak would be a net positive. We could play our 3rd pairing D more often and have less stressful minutes.
Someone compared him to Muzzin, which I'd balk at somewhat, but he is a very effective defenseman, and certainly far better than Dermott. As a fan, I think I've been more than patient with Dermott, but at 24 he's just not progressing. If we lose Holl in the expansion draft next year, we already know Dermott isn't moving up to the second pair. It'll be Sandin. |

Great but tempered expecations here, no one has ever mistaken me for Tanner or Roeper. At the same time it would be fun just to listen to CanuckDon's head explode from that giant aneurysm he would surely get. - winsix

Is there any northern division team that concerns you?
Have you had a go at potential playoff scenarios/brackets? Any team down south that you would consider a bad matchup for the leafs? |

Nice.
Someone gave me a snowblower. It's older. I've never used one. Honest to God, I don't even know how to start it. I was looking at the thing, and it has a primer, and a switch, and a toggle, and a pull cord - and I think a key. It's like a baby's fidget toy that apparently you need to sequence properly to start.
My wife says, "If you're not going to use it, get rid of it." Except it was given to me by her sister's boyfriend, so I'm not allowed to get rid of it.
The moral of my story is that I hate snow blowers. They have caused me nothing but stress. |

I get it and if we want to make a move in the off-season, I’m all over it. I’m warming to the idea of letting Rielly and Kerfoot go and then seeing where we are with Freddie and restructuring the D with Sandin plus some new blood.
I don’t know what the protection numbers are but Holl is moving pretty damn high onto my list. |

Safe money has oilers/jets and leafs/habs.
Montreal might be the biggest concern.

Yup, 21 players as of this morning. Coaches and trainers are infected too. It’s a mess.
I don’t think they can finish the season but the NHL will try their hardest to make it happen. Can’t see how but I’ve underestimated the NHL before so would not be surprised to see them pull it off.
I don’t think our AHLers are even an option because they are spread over multiple teams in the US and Canada. Even if they did, what kind of team could they possibly cobble together? League integrity must be considered.

Montreal
Winnipeg to a slightly lesser extent.
The reason in both cases is goaltending. |

How is the players' health. I had heard some of the guys were really sick with this. Anyone in danger?
Season is shot for Vancouver one way or the other. Figure out a way to fairly record everyone games against them and be done with it.

Dermott could go the other way in a trade but, if you must keep Dermott as your #7, you can always unload another roster player like Soup and sweeten the deal to get Dallas to retain (if you want to create further cap space for another trade).
Oleksiak has been playing over 19 mins a night this season and can be deployed on the left or right side and can kill penalties. He'd be a pretty significant upgrade on Dermott.
Frankly, I'd like to see Taylor Hall and a backup goalie who is better than Hutch (assuming Freddie is done) but if we can't land a significant Top 6 upgrade, but I'd be more than happy to have our D corps get bigger and better. You could make an argument that upgrading the D is actually more important as the Leafs scoring is just fine (and the PP will get better). |

I was in grade 9 in 1971. The hab fans in the class made fun of me constantly because the leafs hadn’t won the cup in 4 years.

Every single season I expect more from Winnipeg and every single season they disappoint. So I refuse to give them any credit this season.
I just don’t see any Canadian team matching up to the leaf’s offensive depth. But I agree, it’s all about goaltending. It should be interesting. |

According to the team, everyone’s suffering from upper body injuries so who knows.
But in all seriousness, I hear it’s not good. Some parents of players are tweeting about it. They are scared for their sons and their families. Media types are saying that the players don’t really want to come back once/if they recover. The mental strain has been too much.
I agree with you. Figure out the math and shut it down. |

cuz of the way the leafs are built pay structure wise, I look at a player who is "available" and its 3/4 liner or backup goalie...and they make 2.5-3 mil and I go WTF???? why so much
