That's in your imagination. Sam can play a hard game and make the opposition uncomfortable and wary, but the days of intimidation as deterrent are over.

Boston was plenty physical w/ the Flyers all night. Braun got absolutely smoked. Everybody just kept playing, because of the score and the stakes.

When Sam asked Frederic to dance, the latter simply declined because there was nothing to gain.

Every time I see some big young buck trying too hard to be tough, it always reminds me of 24/7 and Tom Sestito. Rangers weren't intimidated at all, they were laughing at him.

I don't think Lemieux was laughing...

Who do you consider future core? I dont know that I see many of our players being more than middle 6 and 2nd pairing potential. Farabee Frost Coots York Provy Hart might be my only true untouchables. Would I trade anyone else in the RIGHT deal? Probably.
- Tfaehner

I would be careful to include Frost in any "untouchable" conversation right now. We simply have not seen enough from him to know what he is, and now with a serious shoulder injury that has sunk other players in the past, like Tim Kerr and more recently Rubtsov, I am not sure what we will get out of him. Keeping fingers crossed though.

There's a difference in being wary of going into a board battle w/ Shea Weber and fear of being dragged into a fight for 'taking liberties'. The latter is what OP was talking about. Nobody has to answer the bell anymore.

I wouldn’t think any player worries about going to the front of the Flyers net unless it’s Morin standing there. True not many guys would be dumb enough to drop their gloves they also no that to go that dirty area Morin is going to physically attempt to move them . Watch almost any other team and they are much harder to play against in their crease area. There are a great number of players that are intimidated to the point where they don’t only think about how they are going to get to a loose puck but are they going to get smoked trying to do it. That’s the intimidation that has always and will always be in the NHL.

That’s a really small list in these parts.

I'll take Provorov and Seth Jones for the next 12 years as a set it and forget it top pairing. Arguments on how good Seth is are up for debate but hes definitely really good and would definitely be an elite pairing.
- Tfaehner

Seth Jones is not prime time Drew Doughty, but he is a solid top 4 dman, and the Flyers need solid top 4 dmen right now.

This is absolutely a true observation, the Flyers have as a team been more physical lately, and it coincides with Morin entering the lineup on a nightly basis. I think there is at least some evidence to support the idea that his personality and style is starting to rub off on the other players.
- jd250

Play like that again tonight, pepper the young goalie and win in regulation, and they def have my attention with the hopes of coming out of the slump. There's perhaps a level of desperation as well as some rest has helped.

They need 2 points in regulation tonight, anything less is a failure.

I agree 100%.

Intimidation between the whistles is definitely alive and well. If Sam can patrol a blueline like Scott Stevens or battle like Shea Weber in the trenches or be as big of an bumhole as Pronger, then he's gonna be an asset.

Between the whistles, tho.

Jamie Oleksiak, what's the report on this guy? Can he fill top pair role? Jordan Hall is saying this deal makes sense. LHD. 6'7" tough guy. Is he essentially Morin with more experience?

I would say it doesn't not make sense. Hes been a third pairing d man for the past 8? Seasons. Hes 28. Hes big physical and can skate/fight. What we hoped Morin would be is a fair assessment. This is the first season where hes been elevated to a 2nd pairing position and hes done ok. Id take him over Hagg ghost or Morin at this stage.

Idk. The pens traded him after Simmonds laid the smack down. Yea simmer is a beast. Jamie was also knocked out by Wilson around the same time. He is huge but not overly tough.

Seth Jones would be an ideal pair for Provy (even Sanheim or Myers). He’s responsible and effective on both ends of the ice. The type of partner that has the potential to “free” Provy, much like Nisky last year but arguably more so as Seth Jones is more impactful than Nisky.

Ok... pause. First if were not rating toughness on beating Wilson/ simmer in a scrap than the nhl doesn't have many tough people. Pause on thinking Morin is some god until next week when ill bet your ass he will fight Wilson. Oleksiak has fought and beat guys like chara and chara is a great comparison to how oleksiak uses his size although he is not the player chara was in his prime skill wise.

He would make a fine addition. If he were to come its not glamorous but something like
Provy ghost
Sanheim braun
Oleksiak myers
Would be an improvement imo.

Why? If the Flyers can get a player that exceeds what they have on their roster and what they think they have in their system, why not do it. I will sell potential for actual any day of the week, especially when its not on a rental basis.
- jd250

Because the short term gain may not surpass the long term potential gain you gave up. I don't want to just be good again. I want more. The Flyers are wrong if they think they trade their way there. It also depends on the player. If the Flyers can add someone like Seth Jones for the right price, then I'm on board. I'm not on board overpaying for an Ekholm type.

Myers has some serious raw physical skills. Many fail to realize how inexperienced he is. If I have to include him to get someone like Seth Jones, I would but not for a lesser player. Same with Sanheim.

I get a big kick when some try and take a subtle shot while being ridiculously wrong. My premise isn't that this core will suddenly get better and along with the young players will turn it around and win the Cup. My premise is that the young players will develop and form a new core that can open a window for the team to compete for the Cup for a number of years. Whatever veteran players that are left over will either be good enough to still have a top role (Couturier, Giroux) or be a support player. (Hayes) If you want to take a shot at someone, Be a man about it and confront them directly and be right about what you're saying.

Oh I 110% agree. Im not looking to move myers for Savard or ellis. To your point seth Jones if they want sanheim included? Will miss you bud but im doing it. Myers is a tougher sell because the premium on RHD. Im also not looking to trade 12 young players for 4 veterans. I think we need a top pairing d man to go with provy and an elite level scoring winger. And I would pay to get those.

Flyers are fighting for their playoff lives. Ok, here is a similar scenario, would you be confident with the Flyers going on the road and starting Sandstrom Thursday night at the Islanders?
- PLindbergh31

That is in no way a similar situation. Swayman is their top goalie prospect who has been tearing up the AHL. Hes got like a 1.5 gaa and .940 save percentage or something like that. This is closer to when we called up Carter Hart to get his first NHL game. Swayman has a legit shot of being a part of their goalie tandem next year.

Undercover and Bodyguard, both on Netflix, are really good. Undercover is two seasons, whereas Bodyguard is only 6 episodes.

Yes, however last night he was dangerous only to the Flyers with his blown defensive coverages. I don't want him matched up against the Bruins top line tonight if AV can help it.
- jd250

LOL, as if every other Flyers dman including Provorov isn't in trouble against the Bruins top line. People act like because he's big he's automatically a slow plaing/thinking Broad Street Bully. His game has been as effective as any of the other regressing bueliners this season, stop adding BS things that people think should only apply to him because he's a "goon".
