I think Most Isles fans wanted Luke Schenn in that draft (or Filatov). we moved down twice before taking Bailey so I give them credit for not "reaching" to grab the guy they liked.. at least u traded the pick. I believe Erik Karlsson and John Carlson were picked later in that round.

we had something like 13 picks in that draft.. certainly gives u a better chance at getting some talent. Corey trevino was a miss, so was Ness in second round but Hamonic (late second), Toews (3rd), Matt Martin (late 5th) and Jared Spurgeon (6th round) certainly were good picks.

Edit- Wrong Toews.. nevermind.

6th round in that draft you had us take Spurgeon at 156 and Columbus take Cam Atkinson at 157. pretty incredible.

Maybe. Or else Johnston is still seeing stars, and the choice was between Bellows and Austin Czarnik?

Not to disparage our longest-tenured Islander, but if Bailey is selected to a more talented team with a better coach, he likely is not sitting at 500 points.

1. He probably starts his career in juniors and/or the AHL, because there's no room for him on an NHL roster as an 18 year-old; and,

2. He probably is not allowed to play in a defense-optional system like we saw for so many years with the Islanders (pre-Trotz).

Thanks for the edit. It didn't sound right, and you saved me from having to look it up.

Filatov is the one people were pissed about
- Upstate_isles

Including me. I was inconsolable that day. I was so (frank)ing mad when he passed up on Filatov

Don’t think you need to worry about doing that on here.

What's his contract like? UFA at the end of this year? I don't feel like researching

I was at the draft party that day. A ton of us were pissed they passed on Filatov. The boos were raining down.

I was sitting there with a buddy I worked with at the time watching the feed and we both were like wtf just happened.

There was so much horse crap excitement attached to Filatov leading up to that draft.

I remember watching that video. In hindsight Snow was right and we were all wrong and I say that begrudgingly as I do anything complimentary of that cack sucker

I was interested in him before the caps signed him. Always been a good defensive fwd but he would be redundant on this team imo.

Mock drafts had him going between picks 2 and 4. They had Pietrangelo falling to 5th, and I was sure we would get him. When St. Louis selected him, I was totally bummed. I was sure Garth would select Filatov, but wasn't upset that he picked up a bunch of extra 2nd and 3rd rounders to move back, because I knew that Milbury had left Bridgeport bereft of talent/depth. I actually thought that Garth could have moved back again to get Bailey who I think was figured to go between 15 and 25.

I’m sure Barry likes him. Lou probs loves him because he’s in that shat signing range of 2 to 3 million for 4 to 10 years

Yeah there is no way they are picking him up with that much term and money still owed. Next

That was often the case with Isles picks in early first round.

2010- who the fck is Nino Niedereiter ... I think skinner, connolly, Fowler were who we expected.

2011- who the fck is Ryan Strome... I was flat out praying we would get Couturier in that draft.. he was originally going to be top pick in that draft and fell b/c of injury. Most guys wanted us to take Dougie Hammilton.

2012- Reinhart ... I can't remember anyone talking about that guy. I rememberr the whole Fail for Nail idiocy.. and the rumor that Snow offered all our picks for Ryan Murray to Columbus. I liked Dumba.

Dam Cap Freeze! Lou would have scooped him up and signed him in a heartbeat.
