All I can say is WOW
You still have faith in Andersen.

- bobbyisno1

Even if he backs up Campbell...until campbell gets injured.

Andy has been injured most of the season.

Kerfoot is the Leafs 4C right now...

Definitely can afford to lose him. In fact I would argue trading him and bringing in a UFA C would benefit the team. Takes his cap out for next season and we bring in a better fit.

- Santo_44

This is a bit myopic. Kerfoot may be overpaid at $3.5m, but he is on the 4th line because he is the engine for that line. Without him, that line doesn't get into the O-Zone. Kerfoot has 2 years after this one, so he's an affordable and young option. He's a bottom-9 guy, capable of controlling bottom-6 play, and playing effectively on a 2nd line. He's not a dump; he's an asset that you only move if you're getting better now and in the next years. I don't love his game at ALL, but he has more value than a lot of people here think.

We could certainly use a legitimate 3C, so I'm not disputing that point with you at all, but when I look at pending UFA players who maybe come in cheaper than Kerfoot while being able to perform _effectively_ similarly . . . Janmark, Haula, Wennberg, Laughton, Coleman . . . and those are guesses. Any of those guys might command more than $3.5m in an open market.

Now, for context - if he were included in a deal that helped us next year (like say an Ekholm type of deal, although I think Nashville has played themselves out of the Seller-market), then I'd be less against it.

Agreed.
Some are always trying to trade Kerfoot. Dubas likes him and he is playing well. He wont be traded unless its for a real upgrade.
And ya fack hall.

- Fakepartofme

Can't see where Hall helps any team. Honestly, he's just a trophy hunter. Plain and simple. Exactly what has he shown in the last few years to put any team over the top?

We need to pick-up a couple of guys who can play the heavy game and Hall is no where near that. And never will be.

Not a big fan of Kerfoot ,but he can skate the puck out of trouble when the boys get hemmed in their zone. I'll give him that.

Just book marked it, onhockey is pretty good though. The only time I ever had a problem was the last Winnipeg game. Could only get the crappy Winnipeg announcer.

That's my belief as well, but . . . if it's working . . . ??

The problem, and I believe I said this before the season started, with signing Joe Thornton is that you have a reputation problem. You can't bench him. You can't waive him. You have to play him. He is Joe f'n Thornton - a Hall of Fame player. The team looks up to him. And bringing him in, everyone knew this well before it happened.

Now, that said, the other side of the above is that the team seems to respond to him in the lineup. I honestly think he's a positive influence in the intangible ways - which I didn't think would be this noticeable. I think the team plays better with him in the lineup, even if he's a liability.

The Hyman-Matthews-Marner line has been fantastic, but maybe Keefe should move Thornton up to the top line for a game or 2.. The other issue is that the PP is 0 for 28, Joe does get some PP time.. Once that gets going again, maybe he'll pick up his play

If/when Andersen comes back, do you think he'll be ok with being the backup to Campbell?

One thing is painfully obvious. We'll be in a world of hurt if Hyman gets injured. Team MVP right now.

9:30 is too late for me. I have reached out to Calgary and requested they switch to EST immediately.

I'm not concerned about points. Obviously they are nice, and contribution is going to help take some of the stress out of the games. What I want to see from Joe is his level of compete elevated. He does an awful lot of standing around and not battling when the puck is there. Of late, I watch him lose battles, lose the puck, and not have enough time to make plays when he does have the puck. It's not just his skating that looks slow lately - it's his hands and reactions. These last two are probably the largest indicator to me that he's done. Maybe it's a slump and because he is who is, the scrutiny is more severe, but he doesn't look like a guy who is invested in any capacity right now.

I say that and yet the numbers show that his line is effective. This confuses me, because I know what I'm seeing!

Thornton was really good early on. Ups and downs, it’s whatever. I like having him in the lineup for playoffs and he is Joe Thornton. Good guy to have around the guys.

A month ago he was great.

Ups and downs. It’s a down right now but he’ll ramp it up for playoffs.

Trading for a goalie is the worse possible outcome. It means Andy is out longer term, Campbell cannot be trusted to play healthy long term and the leafs will have to give up assets that could have otherwise been used on a forward.

Lets hope freddy will be healthy so no assets have to be wasted on another goalie.

- Fakepartofme

Even if Freddie comes back are you willing to risk having Hutch as your backup if Freddie or Jack gets injured again?

Ullmark would not command a king's ransom to acquire. He's a UFA goalie and, historically, those assets don't go for much (a 3rd maybe?).

I love Hyman but I have Matthews as our MVP.
