Korpisalo, Ullmark, Aaron Dell, Stolarz, Forsberg, Rittich maybe Forsberg is a bit of a stretch but all of these could be a backup. - winsix
Bring back Dell?
Out of those goalies, not many have proven anything.. Rittich maybe proved her could be a full time starter... As much as I would like Korpisalo, I don't think he's proven anything either |

If he's still not back to feeling right, then I guess I get it - but last night was exactly the type of game where I wanted to see Simmonds do something. Hit someone. Fight someone. Generate some energy, because for 40 minutes the Leafs looked listless. He hasn't done this since returning.
He's not good enough to return to the roster and not be able to do the one thing we need from him.
To me, it's been Thornton who's a problem - but looking deeper at supporting numbers, while he is a drain on the top-6, Thornton has been beneficial to Spezza and Kerfoot. I honestly don't visually _see_ it, but both Spezza and Kerfoot have very noticeable xGF improvements playing with Thornton as opposed to when they play with someone else. The 4th line makes sense for Joe, and the play of Spezza and Kerfoot is complimentary there. - Monkeypunk
Thornton is still crafty. |

A few points:
1. This trade does not preclude any deals to bring a 3C into the lineup.
2. Kerfoot isn't a bonafide 3C and isn't particularly effective on the draw (which is to say, he's terrible at FOWing).
3. Spezza is out-pointing Kerfoot by a pretty big clip (P/60) whilst playing 4 mins less a night and he's taken almost twice as many draws (with elite FOW%).
4. I'm pretty okay with reducing the bottom 6's minutes if it means the top 6 gets to play 20 mins a night.
5. I do want Hall.
- mjones242
1. Fair
2. So?
3. Spezza doesn’t play centre. He takes the faceoff then plays the wing.
4. Too top-heavy. Nah.
5. I hope your dreams don’t come true. |

Kerfoot and Spezza have had to pick up their game to account for Jumbo Joe's lack of production

I thought he looked like he a bit more step in his game last night. Cautiously optimistic he's going to bounce back. |

He was skating well last night. |

Not sure on that one. Kyle said they did scout him quite thoroughly. Still like to see him start a game to see what he has. If he leaks early and often, then oh well. At least we'll know. - Leafsmart
He has 11 minutes of NHL experience. I'm not sure I care to see what he can do anymore than I care to see what Ian Scott can do at this point. |

1. Yay!
2. So.... Kerfoot isn't a C either. So whether we trade him or not we still have a problem at 3C.
3. Spezza played C for most of his career. Pretty sure he can play C 10-14 mins a night. Can't be any worse than Kerf (see #1 and #3).
4. Why is playing the top two lines 20 mins a night "too top heavy"? Also, this doesn't preclude (my word of the day) giving the bottom 6 more time or balancing it more or less.
5. What about Ullmark? |

Methinks Dubas targets a goaltender. Andersen's injury is ostensibly day-to-day but, in actuality, appears to be week-to-week. Can they trust that Andy's return will not be more of the same (injury prone and/or largely mediocre)?
Ullmark as 1b please.
Sabres throwing in Hall would be a nice fit, too. - mjones242
Trading for a goalie is the worse possible outcome. It means Andy is out longer term, Campbell cannot be trusted to play healthy long term and the leafs will have to give up assets that could have otherwise been used on a forward.
Lets hope freddy will be healthy so no assets have to be wasted on another goalie. |

Not trading Kerfoot unless we get a centre back. Spezza does not play centre anymore.
(and I don’t really want Hall) - Steven_Seagull
Agreed.
Some are always trying to trade Kerfoot. Dubas likes him and he is playing well. He wont be traded unless its for a real upgrade.
And ya fack hall. |

Kerfoot is the Leafs 4C right now...
Definitely can afford to lose him. In fact I would argue trading him and bringing in a UFA C would benefit the team. Takes his cap out for next season and we bring in a better fit. |

It’s because he is expendable.
They likely don’t want his cap next season and he’s been the 4C the past little while. Haula, Laughton, Granlund...all players who can come in and be a better fit but won’t cost a penny next season unless there it’s a mutual decision for it to be.
Chris Johnston said last night he thinks Leafs bring in 2 forwards. Kerfoot is likely gone in that case IMO. |

That's my belief as well, but . . . if it's working . . . ??
The problem, and I believe I said this before the season started, with signing Joe Thornton is that you have a reputation problem. You can't bench him. You can't waive him. You have to play him. He is Joe f'n Thornton - a Hall of Fame player. The team looks up to him. And bringing him in, everyone knew this well before it happened.
Now, that said, the other side of the above is that the team seems to respond to him in the lineup. I honestly think he's a positive influence in the intangible ways - which I didn't think would be this noticeable. I think the team plays better with him in the lineup, even if he's a liability. |
