If they let Freddie walk there’s about $2M of his # left after Hyman’s raise for a new goalie and any other upgrades or resigning. Kerfoot $ could be used if they trade him in the off season. But I wouldn’t discount trading Rielly as an alternative. Moving Kerfoot won’t get you much other than room and $5 is bigger than $3.5 which might help get more than a discount goalie. (Move both Kerfoot and Rielly?) - Canada Cup
Everything's flexible, I would imagine. Hamilton is a UFA this off-season, isn't he? I mean that could precipitate a move to try and fit him in - if he's interested, and Carolina doesn't resign him. If that type of move happened, we would likely move on from Rielly as well. |

MON announces Carey Price will not go to TOR. Was injured last night, stayed in game. Cayden Primeau joins team. Hope is it’s not a severe problem. - TheMussel
Yeah, we all saw it last night.
He stayed in the game but something felt off in his movements.
Allen/Primeau will do fine until he recovers.

What’s so gross about $5 for Hyman.
We pay less players more. - annoyed
he will be 29 when the contract starts. so 29-34 age paying a premium is not really the Dubas model. for the declining years.

Ya sorry my math included the assumption Kerfoot's cap hit is also gonzo.
He's 2.7 million in cash the next two years ....somebody won't hate that if they like him as a middle six guy. Leafs won't get much at all but the cap space is critical. He also could be playing in Seattle. |

My thoughts ..
IF Hyman is above 5.5 I tell him and Poulin to (frank) off.
IF he's 5 - 5.5 I think about it long and hard and see what other options I have.
IF he's 5 or less I get it done asap.
Freddy is gonzo unless he's solid the rest of the way and takes a major discount (ain't happening).
My math says the Leafs will have about 6.5-7 million left to sign a goalie and a middle six forward (re-sign Gally?). So no financial need to move Rielly and they're in go-for-it mode so I think they'd walk him into UFA unless there's a great deal that makes sense.
Rielly is good but I don't love his game. I feel like under Keefe a more complete guy would fit better. He's an ancillary piece on the PP, he's not a good PK'er and he's pretty mediocre 5v5. His skating and passing is elite but that 20 goal year looks more and more like a mirage. - The Law
for me, now that the D has been tightened up...he really sticks out in his own end or playing odd man sit. he wil want/get 7+ im sure.
id rather have another Brodie

Signed Muzzin for 31-35 @ 6.9%.
The right defensemen fit into different model structures.
You don't want to end up with too many old unmovable contracts, obviously, but I couldn't imagine a guy like Hamilton being unmovable at 34.
Like anyone, I like Hamilton. If you could get him at a reasonable term for an amount that makes sense . . . like $7.5x5, then I think you do it. I just don't know where the market moves in a flat cap era. Lots of teams would have interest, but how many have a lot of financial flex. I know some will have much more to offer . . . |

I'm sorry. I thought that was a response to a different post; my mistake.
For Hyman, since I'm replying - I don't know. I started out thinking of him as a $4.5m guy, and now I'm edging closer to $5m; I'd probably put him in with the Rielly Smith type of player as a comparable ($5m). I still Hyman gets $5mx5 . I don't think his age to 34 is a huge factor, but yeah, I'll agree that his type of style could be impacted as he ages. |

Give him and an extra year and $4m and then put him on LTIR when he finally runs out of steam. |
