What's the sticking point from your perspective?!
- mjones242

Not trading Kerfoot unless we get a centre back. Spezza does not play centre anymore.

Simmonds is not effective right now.
- Atomic Wedgie

More effective than Thornton, and he has still thrown about 1-2 hits

Jason Spezza, the Leafs 37 year old 4th liner has more points than 26 year old Canadiens “1st liner” Josh Anderson. #LeafsForever #GoHabsGo

- Steven_Seagull

I'd like to point out that Spezza has also played 6 more games

I think Foligno is a better fit than Hall, but Hall at 50% retained would be nice too

I hope it does not become fortnight-to-fortnight.
- Atomic Wedgie

I think the team will be evasive right up until the deadline, then we'l'l know the real story on Freddie.

Been a big fan of him since he came on board. Was a breath of fresh air because we never had a real goalie after the Eagle left.

But saying that now, pretty much guaranteed he won't get 5 mil. from us again.

Ullmark and Hall with 50% retained for?

I think the Leafs should give Vehvilanien a chance before deciding what to do with their goaltending.. Now is a good time to give him a start.

- PatC80

I would think the Leafs would look for a proven NHL goalie rather than try experimenting a month before the playoffs. Lots of backups and expiring deals available in goal.

Honest question. Is it wrong that I enjoyed (in fact I poured myself an extra glass of wine) when Holl crushed Tkachuk into the door to the Leaf's bench and saw him hobble around in pain for a few seconds?

I'm thinking teh villain is not an NHL goalie and, while none of us feels particularly secure with him, Hutch is the better option.
- mjones242

I was just thinking that Hutch has shown he can be an NHL backup again (maybe).

I hope that after the expansion draft, the Leafs deal him (give him away) to a team that can use him.

that and the Matthews butt check on Tkachuk that led to the 4th goal

How many "proven" goalies are available? Maybe Quick?

Are you saying Scabeh is a furry?
- Atomic Wedgie

Well today, I think he's still a little down in the dumps after the Sens stung them the other night.
Don't mind him here though. Posts some good hockey insight.

Hall (50%) + Ullmark (25%)

Kerfoot + Barabanov + Hutch + 1st (2021)

Not sure on that one. Kyle said they did scout him quite thoroughly. Still like to see him start a game to see what he has. If he leaks early and often, then oh well. At least we'll know.

today would have been the perfect time to give him a try but it sounds like Campbell is good to go

I still like him for 4th line duty, maybe his hand has not fully recovered?

Korpisalo, Ullmark, Aaron Dell, Stolarz, Forsberg, Rittich maybe Forsberg is a bit of a stretch but all of these could be a backup.

A few points:

1. This trade does not preclude any deals to bring a 3C into the lineup.

2. Kerfoot isn't a bonafide 3C and isn't particularly effective on the draw (which is to say, he's terrible at FOWing).

3. Spezza is out-pointing Kerfoot by a pretty big clip (P/60) whilst playing 4 mins less a night and he's taken almost twice as many draws (with elite FOW%).

4. I'm pretty okay with reducing the bottom 6's minutes if it means the top 6 gets to play 20 mins a night.

5. I do want Hall.

If he's still not back to feeling right, then I guess I get it - but last night was exactly the type of game where I wanted to see Simmonds do something. Hit someone. Fight someone. Generate some energy, because for 40 minutes the Leafs looked listless. He hasn't done this since returning.

He's not good enough to return to the roster and not be able to do the one thing we need from him.

To me, it's been Thornton who's a problem - but looking deeper at supporting numbers, while he is a drain on the top-6, Thornton has been beneficial to Spezza and Kerfoot. I honestly don't visually _see_ it, but both Spezza and Kerfoot have very noticeable xGF improvements playing with Thornton as opposed to when they play with someone else. The 4th line makes sense for Joe, and the play of Spezza and Kerfoot is complimentary there.
